…I’m trying to take your photo!

On a recent visit to Hardwick park, we spotted the geese with their adorable babies, but by the time cameras were out, the rain had started and the goslings at this point were hiding under the wing of Mum, who was having a rest. We noticed every couple of minutes that they kept bopping their little heads out, so we kept trying to get a clear shot of this, but they were so fast diving back for cover it was impossible to focus on them in time. It reminded me of the arcade game wac-a-mole, except we weren’t trying to bop them with a mallet. Just had to share this one, despite not getting it focussed, it’s too cute. 😂

Happy Thursday ❤️

Hello everyone!

Just posting an old photo of my lovely cat Kirara because I've been so busy lately that I really don't have time to roam around and take pictures as I'd like to.. But oh well, here she is, with that lovely nose of hers!

You can follow me on Instagram if you want! I'll follow you back :) you can find me as gggiuliac (www.instagram.com/gggiuliac/?hl=it)

Metroport train MP8 out of the Bay of Plenty cruises past Bethlehem at sunset. A cleaner DL followed 5 minutes later, but alas on a less-photogenic empty logger.

The 63-strong DL class built in Dalian, China has had a chequered career. The 3600hp 20-cylinder MTU-powered machines have become more reliable after a stumbling introduction which included blades flying off alternator fans and the discovery of asbestos in the carbodies. The oldest of these are now more than ten years old, the class almost completely displacing older GM and EMD locos from the North Island service.

A couple of ducks motor out of the way of the noise to disturb the reflection of the loco, and more move away in the background.

22 May 2020, Train MP3X (if there is such a thing), a surprisingly clean first-batch DL 9072, beside the new cycleway near Omokoroa, BOP-NZ

Do I need to say that this was taken with an Olympus camera?

Passing Bethlehem, a pair of DLs lead train 334, originating at Mount Maunganui, the knob visible in the left distance.

Train 385, an early morning empty logger heads along the Bay of Plenty coastline east of Tauranga.

This is my visit visit to the Bay of Plenty since I was a kid. There are no shortage of trains here, but alas they are all led by the double-ended Dalian-built DL class Pandas - hardly the prettiest loco ever designed. At least the most recent batch of them remain clean, as the early ones are filthy.

I love the architecture in these old brownstones in central Harlem.

Sometimes there is too much light. This Kestrel did not seem bothered by me approaching it, but I couldn't quite get the right angle for the harsh light. It has come out reasonably well following a few adjustments on the computer.

A surprisingly clean early DL leads a metroport train away from Tauranga through the wetlands near Omokoroa. On most days there are about 7 of these fairly long trains each way, bringing containers from the Port of Tauranga into Auckland. Another clean first-batch loco.

This Bird of Paradise flower had somewhat different colors than those I usually see - bright red, yellow and the "usual" blue. Seen close to the Lily Ponds at the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens, San Marino CA. Lou, I hope you like this BOP !!

Other than containers, wood is the other major cargo up here with trains shuttling between the forests, the mills and Mt Maunganui's port.

We saw this Spotted sandpiper above the boat launch at Lake Springfield. We had seen it a few days earlier, along a log in the water. Its up and down movement is quite distinctive and humorous.

I went dancing, or bopping, at the Warehouse's exciting Techno gig with my friend and neighbour the groovy Gereon Corvinus. It was fun.

Hard bop is a subgenre of jazz that is an extension of bebop (or "bop") music. Journalists and record companies began using the term in the mid-1950s to describe a new current within jazz which incorporated influences from rhythm and blues, gospel music, and blues, especially in saxophone and piano playing.

David H. Rosenthal contends in his book Hard Bop that the genre is, to a large degree, the natural creation of a generation of African-American musicians who grew up at a time when bop and rhythm and blues were the dominant forms of black American music. 24 Prominent hard bop musicians included Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Charles Mingus, Art Blakey, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Tadd Dameron.

Hard bop is sometimes referred to as "funky hard bop." The "funky" label refers to the rollicking, rhythmic feeling associated with the style. The descriptor is also used to describe soul jazz, which is commonly associated with hard bop.According to Mark C. Gridley, soul jazz more specifically refers to music with "an earthy, bluesy melodic concept and... repetitive, dance-like rhythms.... Note that some listeners make no distinction between 'soul-jazz' and 'funky hard bop,' and many musicians don't consider 'soul-jazz' to be continuous with 'hard bop.'" The term "soul" suggests the church, and traditional gospel music elements such as "amen chords" (the plagal cadence) and triadic harmonies that seemed to suddenly appear in jazz during the era.
