In Winnipeg, Manitoba. I did a little digging...Since the mid-1950s, the cut-out of a bull, Rockwood Romarnuk, was on the front of the barn at Riverbend Dairy Farm (R. George Gobert & Sons) on St. Mary’s Road in St. Vital. Thanks to Glenn "Bootsy" Rand of Main Branch Tree Service, the weathered piece of history now has a new home at the St. Vital Museum. The real Rockwood Romarnuk won first place at the 1954 Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, organizers say. There are newspaper articles dating back to 1935 and 1938, giving details about the farm - complaints about easements, a visit from the St.Vital Dairy Calf Club. Mr. Gobert passed in 2012, he spent his whole life on the farm, which ceased operations as a dairy farm in 1975, but which was a grain farm until 2008, when he retired. While I was on the property an older lady was leaving in her truck, she stopped and I mentioned I thought the building was beautiful. She said she thought it was rather ugly. I don't know if that is his widow, but she was certainly around the right age. I think I'll stop in again. I'm intrigued.
Boney Fields nació en 1958 en Chicago donde creció junto con sus hermanos rodeado de un gran ambiente musical. En 1979 comenzó su carrera profesional trabajando con diferentes bandas de funk y jazz. Sus influencias musicales más importantes han sido James Brown and the JB’s, Earth Wind & Fire y Bootsy Collins por el lado funk y Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis o Clifford Brown por el Jazz.
En 1985 comenzó a tocar en The James Cotton Blues Band como director de la sección de vientos. También ha realizado giras internacionales con grandes artistas como Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, AC Reed, Eddie Clearwater, Valerie.
Actualmente está afincado en Paris llevando a cabo su proyecto musical llamado The Bones’ Project. Con un artista encima del escenario como Boney Fields el espectáculo está asegurado.

Thought I would pop by for a little #MacroMonday shot. I have a new camera and a new logo. Both reflect more about who and where I am in photography these days. We lost our precious Bootsy Cat this weekend. So, tried to distract myself by taking the mirrorless out for a spin. I am truly an old dog who does not want to learn new tricks. Even if they are great tricks. Even if they are ridiculously awesome tricks - haha. But my D800 (*The Beast) is truly edging close to dinosaur status. Be Apes' Bootsy found a girlfriend. Black haired Lulu. They decide to have a Bed-In for promoting peace in the world and peace in the hard recording work. Fans and friends were thinking they would be talking about this Simian peace thing but Bootsy was just snoring.

But i stay cool.. I want to paint a guy to the right of me doing a solo on a guitar in 81' Toto fashion.. with taco meat with all the fixins coming out of his shirt.. making his OH face while in the midst of a solo... and man is it hard to paint with my Bootsy Collins spectacles on..

I had a friend's dog "Bootsy" at my place for 5 days. I couldn't get one clear shot of her, she never stopped still to get a photo. Mercedes Ruled it over her and wasn't afraid in the least and picked a fight by getting on her hind legs like a kangaroo and boxing her on the face. The dog thought she was playing at first, then barked. I interceded before the dog decided to break Mercedes neck.
Started a bit early this year. Managed to have this little pumpkin for two days before i caved in and hacked it up. I'm sure there will be more...

Sharon Jones. The Funk Brothers. Bootsy Collins. Trombone Shorty. Sandra Nkake. Da Cruz. Cirque du Soleil. Prince. Stevie Wonder (ok, so I missed Prince and Stevie!!) Some fantastic acts have blown up Montreal's famous jazz festival. For this 2022 edition, the show you shouldn't have missed was Kamasi Washington. I'd had long heard talk about him and here was a chance to see him live on the big stage.
Consider me sold: I am now a fan!!! WHAT A SHOW!!! The drummer behind in the glasses was one of two, and was wearing a fluorescent blue wig. During a solo he played so hard it flew off: the crowd cheered!
Taken with the Bella Donna, my rare Canon EF 50-200mm L uncharacteristically behaving well in infrared as I was at 200mm (the focus is often shifted at shorter focal lengths).
I might post a color shot one of these days, but I always feel jazz musicians should be depicted in black-and-white. A nod to its history, I guess...!

New Orleans jamming hits Montreal in the form of Trombone Shorty, here putting his instrument through the paces for a packed audience. He raised the roof for Bootsy, who then brought the house down! (at the risk of mixing my metaphors...)

Lens: Canon EF 35-105 f/3.5-4.5 at 105mm. I had to put away the big lens according to security as it looked "professional!" No problem; I was right in front of the stage...and the lighting was bright enough for a moderate aperture.
In 2014 he returned to headline his own show at the jazz fest.
