I have no idea what this plant is but tucked into the bushes, the reddish leaves caught my attention. In this HSS edit, I've emphasized the shadowy branches I was shooting through and boosted a few sliders in LR to deepen the colors! Hope everyone has a Happy Sliders Sunday!

Lachung is a town and hill station in northeast Sikkim, India. It is located in the North Sikkim district near the border with Tibet. Lachung is at an elevation of about 9,600 feet (2,900 m) and at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung Rivers, both tributaries of the River Teesta. The word Lachung means "small pass". The town is approximately 125 kilometres (78 mi) from the capital Gangtok.

The Indian Army has a forward base in the town. Before the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950, Lachung was a trading post between Sikkim and Tibet, after which it was closed down. The town's economy has been boosted by tourism in recent years as the region has been opened up by the Indian government. Tourists come from all over the world to visit the town between October and May, mostly on their way to the Yumthang Valley and the Lachung Monastery. Most of Lachung's inhabitants are of Lepcha and Tibetan descent. Languages spoken here are Nepali, Lepcha and Bhutia. During winter the town is usually covered in snow. Lachung is also the base camp for Rhododendron Valley Trek which starts from Yumthang Valley and ends at Lachen Valley.

Lachung has been described as the "most picturesque village of Sikkim" by British explorer Joseph Dalton Hooker in his definitive, The Himalayan Journal (1855). Skiing is conducted in Phuni near this town.

A part of a shop window covered with semi transparent, adhesive, white plastic before painting the facade. I just can't explain the yellow, green and blue shapes. The broad Depth of Field makes it very dreamy.

Looking good on both ends back on May 4, 1980 as the daily eastbound Toledo Peroria & Western freight headed by their lone GP30 gets an old fashioned boost out of Peoria by Nickle Plate 765 which had arrived the day before and would pull excursions the following weekend.

Seemingly random phrases stencilled into the rusty metal facade of the Wave apartment building on Gilles Street in the city.

The vitamin boost doesn't just apply to grapes and tomatoes. Photography often gives me a positive boost (and sometimes a bit frustation when things don't work out well). So now I'm curious what gives you positve energy?

Logo for a project i've been working on...

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything: partly due to me needing to get a new computer (RIP old Dell – you served me well); and partly due to work getting in the way of photography [shakes fist at employer]. So now that I’ve get my new PC set up, with the old “photos” hard drive installed, I can go raiding for something to process and upload.

This shot was taken on a windy day in New York over the Christmas period, when I went to stay with my family. The gull, like his brothers and sisters the whole world over, was on the hunt for any food he could steal from the two-legged creatures below. At the last moment, I think he realised that a Nikon is of little nutritional value.

Equipment: Nikon D7000, Nikkor 70-300mm @70mm, ISO 100, F32, 1/8 sec

Post-production: Cloned out sensor spots, minor adjustments to levels and contrast, and a healthy saturation boost.

my husband has been trying (unsuccessfully) to get me into using twitter & signal boost accounts/ articles that counter dis/misinformation campaigns. i'm all for him & others doing that; but twitter is too loud for me to add my voice to the cacophony, & would rather resign precious energy to be spent where i can be most aeffective - the silent realm of light & shadow.

Rundle Mall - I like the strong colour contrasts and the subtle signs echoing the action - look carefully 😉

Captured this with three RAW shots at -2..0..+2 EV. Digital blending in Photoshop CS6. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Clarity for additional boost in color and contrast.

I've posted this scene a couple times in tha past two years, each time processing it a little differently. This time I created three separate exposures from the original RAW file, one for the sky, which was washed out in the original, one for the snow covered mountains, which needed a boost in contrast, and one for the red rocks, which were basically o.k. in the original, and then erased away the parts from each layer I didn't want in order to reveal the parts that I did want. I'm not sure I improved all that much on the others, but I'm pretty happy with this one.

This picture was shot on a tripod with three exposures (-2..0..+2 EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tone mapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Hot Air Balloon taking off at Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. Went with friends on Sunday for some photography at the tulip field. So glad that there were a couple of hot air balloons launching that day.
