You get when you hold a book in your hands... it's the anticipation of a new adventure, of a new world you can explore, a world that smells of ink and paper...
And then... You start the adventure and you are captivated and can't stop turning the pages...
You can feel the texture of the paper and it's like a link to the magical world of the book... it's a physical connection to a place in your imagination...
Macro Mondays - Book
A tiny book of poems I picked up from our village library and a tiny daisy picked from our front garden. HMM
For Smile on Saturday - Red hearts
I have used this book for similar photos before. This time I put Lensbaby Omni coloured film in front of the lens. Texture (my own) added for a grungier look.
Lensbaby Trio 28, Sweet setting with macro filter.

I'm still struggling with my back and after having an MRI, I am waiting for a pain management appointment. So this is why I'm taking a bit of a back seat on Flickr at the moment. I will try to stop by to leave some comments but may just have to hit the star button.

Day 238/365:
Definitely dreaming - Open - Open book, open pages
I've had a slightly better day today and as my camera complete with macro lens and Omni crystals were still on the tripod, I thought I'd attempt to use it for something fairly simple.
I added a couple of texture layers (my own).
Just had to play with some textures ;-)
I was thrilled to see a wonderful interview published today on bookpage.com/ about The Secret LIfe of Squirrels. ;-)
65/365: A different take on the book page heart which I've done a few times before, it's always useful to go back and try things differently in a 365. This time I've used some of my vintage books and added a texture courtesy of Anna Lenabem

October 2025: A month in 31 pictures
#86 in my 100 x challenge - 100 Lensbaby images
While the idea was fresh in my mind i thought I'd do the high key version of yesterday's image.Feeling mighty guilty for picking these geranium flowers though.
This time I used the Lensbaby Edge 80 with the +2 macro filter
We're past the halfway point, well done everyone.
For Macro Mondays theme - Black and White
The theme calls for the subject to be converted to b/w rather than the subject to be black and or white...in the original a hint of colour could be seen so I hope this qualifies. I am (far) away from home so it's not so easy for me to participate in themes but just had this idea so went with it. I asked my husband what he thought and he said 'well, I wouldn't use it' so I went with it! ;)
Once again I apologise for the lack of commenting. HMM

and have a healthy new week.
This was the other option for Macro Monday. I surprised myself by not choosing the high key but felt the other one was maybe more interesting.
Macro Monday - Hobby
I love to read and I also like to collect old books so I thought I would combine the two.
I also did a high key shot which I may post as well. HMM
I haven't been on Flickr much but will try to stop by to take a look at all your work.

Bit of a drab day today so I figured I may as well set up another quick still life / flat lay for my photo.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

I haven't done one of these for a while and decided on a vintage book for this one with some dried hydrangea flowers.
Lensbaby Velvet 85
I'm adding this one to the BDCC monthly challenge as well as the high key one. I took this one originally with the challenge in mind and then thought I'd misread the brief - At home -still life - Contemplate a familiar object and give it your own spin. Work with controlled light to demonstrate shape and form.
Here I used an LED light angled slightly away from the subject.

I lit 12 tea light candles to the left of my little book which I placed at an angle. The book is about 5 inches square and was a gift from a friend. It's full of funky art and quotes. I really enjoyed this challenge, it was good to try a new way to light subjects and I'm sure I will be using it again. HMM
I always seem to be apologising for the lack of commenting but as well as being a busy time of year, Podge, my elderly puss has been very poorly. So we've had lots of visits to the vet and Podge has needed a lot of looking after and special meals preparing. I'm pleased to say he seems to have turned a corner and is looking a lot brighter and more like his old self.

35/52: The weekly challenge - Leaves
I bought a couple of old books at the weekend...to add to my growing collection. One was an old library book about the life and times of Lloyd George. I tore the fly leaf out (hence the title) since that was the whole purpose of buying the book. Apologies to anyone who thinks that is a crime but the way I look at it is it's being used rather than end up in a tip somewhere. The other book, with the rose on has lots of hand written notes in it which also appeals to me from an artistic point of view. I also made a tag with the leaf definition from an old dictionary...oh dear...I am a book lover really!

14/52 For The 52 Week Challenge - Try again, fail again, fail better. Another difficult theme but I am using this image because I have done it a couple of times before and feel it's one of those things I will never be 100% happy with so I will keep failing but hopefully it will be a bit better each time. A previous attempt in comments.
I am going to be away for the weekend with no internet access so will catch up when I'm back. Hope you all have a great weekend.
66/365: Or perhaps I should call it High key rules! ;) Yesterday's pic did seem totally out of character and unfamiliar. To answer your question Dana, I hadn't done it in high key but you sowed the seed for today. I couldn't get the same composition because the newer book pages have less tooth so the other books slid off. Still, another day down! Now, I really must read these books! ;)

on top of a bookcase in my home... I hope to add more houses. The ceramic vessels to each end are pieces made several years ago. The houses are recent. Framed sky portrait is 104 in my sepia series (slightly different crop). There will be lights at night....
Today was a day of reading policies, agreements and emails - seemed like a good idea to find inspiration in the somewhat dry reading material for today's photo.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

For Macro Mondays - Amore.
"Noi leggiavamo un giorno per diletto
di Lancialotto come amor lo strinse;
soli eravamo e sanza alcun sospetto.
Per più fiate li occhi ci sospinse
quella lettura, e scolorocci il viso;
- Dante Inferno Canto 5
"One day, for pleasure,
We read of Lancelot, by love constrained:
Alone, suspecting nothing, at our leisure.
Sometimes at what we read our glances joined,
Looking from the book each to the other's eyes,
And then the color in our faces drained.
But one particular moment alone it was
Defeated us: the longed-for smile, it said,
Was kissed by that most noble lover: at this,
This one, who now will never leave my side,
Kissed my mouth, trembling. A Galeotto, that book!
And so was he who wrote it; That day we read no further."
-Translation by Robert Pinsky
A quick still life for today since I wasn't feeling too inspired.

For 'Macro Mondays' Theme of 'Low Key'
Illuminated only by a neon hand held torch in an otherwise pitch black room - had to be taken late evening for that!
The local second hand bookseller had a copy of the Rough Guides, 'Making the Most of Your Time on Earth', in a box destined for land fill - the copy was mine for free! I wanted it as a source of coloured paper and pictures. So using a single page from the book, some cutting with a sharp knife, and some folding I made the skeletal paper shape you can see. A piece of discarded mirror from a vanity box and a very rough Chinese marble then complete the picture - using the torch of course.
Not quite all the story because this is a first picture from an old Russian lens sold to me as 'for parts or not working' that I bought for very little on eBay. Its certainly very battered, the focus is a bit stiff, and the lense is delaminating. However if it can produce pictures of this quality I think I'm going to be very pleased.
