“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

according to the description on the cover, this is the first (ever) illustrated edition of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Philosophers's Stone" ... and the illustrations are such a beautiful work of art by Jim Kay (but they wouldn't fit into a MM frame ; ))

Reading the series as a teenager and playing with light. I was sixteen years old and had just started using a Canon Reflex.

Sher Mandal, the library of second Mughal ruler, Humayun, is believed to have been built five centuries back.
From contemporary documents it is learnt that Humayun fell on the stairs while descending and died.

Another de Chirico inspired laneway shot. The cyclist must be a booklover checking out the portable library. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/52280306716/in/dateposted/

Continuing with my more people-oriented portrait of New York. How much more 'people' can you get than an outdoor, Summer, vegetable market ? Lower Broadway meets 14th Street in a distinctive New York City park, the west and north side of which becomes that farmers' market.
Just 2 streets south of here on Broadway at East 12th is the famous "Strand" bookstore. "18 miles of books" a sign says on the store front. I spent over 4 hours in there and could've probably burned up a couple more. It's an astounding universe all it's own. A booklovers paradise.

Una rica merienda y una buena lectura. What else?

This room wasn’t built to store books. It was built to honor them.
Floor-to-ceiling shelves wrap around the walls like a fortress of paper, topped by a gallery that turns reading into something almost ceremonial. The dark wood paneling, the carved details, even the stained-glass window catching the daylight — everything says this library once belonged to a world where knowledge had weight, where learning was something you could enter and physically surround yourself with.
And yet the scene on the floor tells the opposite story. Pages and fragments scattered across the rug like fallen leaves. A few books abandoned face-down, as if even they gave up trying to be found. The leather sofa still sits there, waiting, but the silence has shifted: not the calm silence of concentration — the hollow silence of something that has been left behind.
The globe beside the couch is the perfect symbol. It’s a reminder of a time when discovering the world meant turning pages, following lines on a map, slowly building a picture in your head. Today we carry the world in our pockets, but that immediacy comes at a price: knowledge becomes fast, endless, and strangely disposable. We don’t keep it the same way. We don’t live with it. We scroll past it.
Rooms like this feel like monuments to a different rhythm. To patience. To depth. To the idea that understanding was worth the time it demanded. Many of the titles on these shelves may no longer matter in a practical sense — outdated reference works, forgotten editions, knowledge replaced by updates and search bars — but the space itself still matters. Because it shows what we used to believe: that books were not content, but legacy.
