Elsa with her bone.

I ran the 5K this morning in the Rattle Me Bones race. It is a fund raiser for the Ottawa Hospital Foundation. Because I did a shorter race I was able to get a few photos of the 10K racers coming into the finish line.

I did OK on the race - my back didn't feel too bad so this is good.

This was a last minute idea, part because the bricklink store I was browsing had 3 skrall helmets, so I figured why not! I took the most design liberties here, since the base figure was literally just a "black stickman". So I figured spikes and ribs would make a fitting addition, emphasizing the scavenger aspect of the character. The ice sword also works better here than a skrall blade. No idea about building a mount for it yet, but when budget and inventory allows it I might try!

The tail end of the 2017 Photo Safari to Europe brought us to the village of Hallstatt, Austria.

If you ever have the chance to visit this is a must see. The Bone House or Charnel house.

From Hallstatt.net

The world-famous charnel house in St. Michael’s Chapel

Alongside the world’s oldest salt mine and the idyllic, world-famous postcard view, the charnel house or ‘Bone House’ in St. Michael’s Chapel is one of the most interesting tourist sites in Hallstatt. The chapel dates back to the 12th century and is located next to the catholic parish church. Each year, visitors from throughout the world come to admire the unusual collection of over 600 artistically painted skulls. Many of the skulls were decorated at the end of the 18th century, but a few are from even the 20th century.

It took two retirees five summers to dig this up. Slow, painstaking - they use paint brushes and screwdrivers! One of the largest apatosaurus femurs ever found. Six feet long.

Something dumb I've been tinkering with inbetween work today.

Depth, texture and tone were my by-words in the creative process.

I have made a large print on very fine Japanese paper to complete a short series of three.

Beautiful beings are always fragile

yet beauty itself is always immortal.

Found this on the beach in Alnmouth Northumberland! I have no idea what it belonged to, but my Sister in law is a bit wierde and had to bring it home (her home not mine lol) I do have a side view too - Those teeth are quite large! Any Ideas?

Great visions burst upon my sight.

For down the stretches of the sky,

The hosts of dead go marching by."

Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones,

An emptiness began to grow,

There's something out there, far from my home,

A longing that I've never known.

By Dana Albany. I don't know if this is the same Bone Tree built for the burn in '99, but it sure looks similar. The bones are real, taken from the desert and ranches nearby.
