The Bone Caves are a series of natural caves set into a high limestone cliff called Creag nan Uamh (Crag of the Caves). The caves are named for the large numbers of animal bones found during excavations.
There are four main cave openings in the cliffs, formed before the last ice age by water dissolving limestone in cracks in the surrounding rock. Subsequent glacial action and erosion of the glen by water left the caves hundreds of feet above the valley floor.
There is no indication that the caves were ever used as human habitat, but two separate human burials have been discovered within the caves.
In total, over 1000 pieces of reindeer antler have been found in the Bone Caves, with dates ranging from 47,000 to 8,300 years ago.
One rare find was the skull of a Northern lynx, dated to 1,770 years ago. This is the only Northern lynx ever found in Scotland. Other intriguing remains include a possible polar bear, arctic fox, wolf, and brown bear.

This little web is as if you hold your index finger and thumb up separate to space something out in front of you. This thought takes a good imagination to many places, my first stop being "What if a person died in a flash making that pose with their hands and time has reduced them to bones where a spider has decided to make it's home." What do you see?
The Ossuary contains the remains of about 40,000 people. One of the most unusual places I've been. The bones were fashioned into chandeliers, bells, coat of arms and columns by a master woodcarver, named František RINT in 1870.
An idea I had to illustrate the main characters from the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" in stained glass. Being from the Hudson Valley I have always loved Washington Irving's stories and could easily imagine fall in old Sleepy Hollow.
The small size made cutting the pieces (approx 40) very tedious. I think it work better in larger panels.
Each panel is approx. 10 inches by 3 inches.
Each panel sets into a maple base (not shown) and is lit from behind to illuminate the scene.
Bram Bones, incredibly handsome and daring farmhand, the only man able or foolish enough to ride the rambunctious and ill-tempred Daredevi, was also equally dull and provincial.
Vying for Katrina's hand and Farm his meathead antics quickly become boorish as Katrina was wooed by Ichabod's worldliness, education, and fine manners.
After Ichabod disappeared Bram married Katrina and always smiled when he heard the story of how Ichabod was never seen again.
This mural was at the front of the exhibit. It is about 3 times what you see here, and of course the boys knew exactly what page and book it was from. In fact they knew where all the pages came from.
