I have to admit....some of this boxcar graffiti is pretty good. I saw this one today in Rock Island,Illinois. I just hope the artist's talents aren't going to waste on private property like this. At least they keep the spray paint industry busy.

One can never have too many bones to chew. Of course each one must be sampled before settling on the perfect one!!! When it's very cold outside it's a good way to keep busy!

I had to laugh when I saw Ghillie lying on his blanket with all the bones scattered all over the floor. Our poor bone basket has seen it's share of chewing too as you can see. :)

Have a great Sunday!

better on black

ps... does anyone know why flickr color is so much better than uploading images directly from the hard drive to other web sites? flickr seems to hold on to the sharpness and crispness and vibrancy and color, but elsewhere, it does not. ugghhhh!

The Sedlec Ossuary is a small Roman Catholic chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints, part of the former Sedlec Abbey 0n the outskirts of Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, whose bones have been artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.

Four enormous bell-shaped mounds occupy the corners of the chapel. An enormous chandelier of bones, which contains at least one of every bone in the human body, hangs from the center of the nave with garlands of skulls draping the vault. Other works include piers and monstrances flanking the altar, a coat of arms of the House of Schwarzenberg, and the signature of Rint, also executed in bone, on the wall near the entrance.

In the mid 14th century, during the Black Death, and after the Hussite Wars in the early 15th century, many thousands were buried in the abbey cemetery, so it had to be greatly enlarged.

Around 1400, a Gothic church was built in the center of the cemetery with a vaulted upper level and a lower chapel to be used as an ossuary for the mass graves unearthed during construction. After 1511, the task of exhuming skeletons and stacking their bones in the chapel was given to a half-blind monk of the order. In 1870, František Rint, a woodcarver, was employed by the Schwarzenberg family to put the bone heaps into order, yielding a macabre result. The signature of Rint, also executed in bone, appears on the wall near the entrance to the chapel.

Deliciously buttery and full of vitamins. A side dish at Stark's Steakhouse where I took my Paleo diners whom I summoned with an open invitation on the chapter Yahoo list, inspired by colleague Margaret who had summoned her vegan diners in similar fashion. I found the restaurant by googling "paleo, Santa Rosa". Found an article about the chef who had adopted the caveman diet and then made the menu a la carte so Paleo eaters could avoid the carbs.

This was the only picture I thought to take the entire trip to Santa Rosa which is considered part of the wine country.

We were having our regional conference in Santa Rosa and I gave a presentation, with my colleague Debra, on sustainability and creating change with new habits. Forgot to have someone take a picture of us in our speaker outfits.
