started privately in 1846 and bought and expanded by the City of Savannah, GA in 1907. Imagine my surprise when I went to its website just now to find some details and saw this photo in the first comment box front and center on their home page. It's the very same view that inspired my photo above.
I am trying to learn more about this rounded roof shape. I believe some may call it a "bow roof". Please send me a flickr mail if you can point me to any references. thanks.
This little park is built above a parking garage across the street from the Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles.
It's the only place I could find to get a good view of the hotel, but then I don't know my way around there.
Bonaventure Island seabird colony off the east coast near Perce, Quebec, Canada.
There are breeding Northern Gannets, Common Murres and Black-legged Kittiwakes as well as other varieties of seabirds. The main Gannet colony occupies the upper area including the flats on the top while the other species occupy the various cliff faces. The estimate at the time was 120,000 breeding Gannets.
It is truly a spectacle to behold and involves a boat ride from the town of Perce which goes around d the island as well a drops people off on shore for the day only.

I recently posted the color version of this scene. As often happens, the more I look at some images, the more I think they should be in black and white, so here is another take on it. Of course, the color version is more true to the way the place actually looks. This one looks to me like it’s a right good place to be haunted.
This is one of five houses in New Bonaventure that have this rounded roof style. There are two other Newfoundland communities that have examples of this style though the highest concentration is here. I am trying to learn more about the origins of this constuction style.
Old Bonaventure Harbour in Newfoundland
Old Bonaventure, Newfoundland on the Trinity Peninsula. Photograph reminds me of the John Denver line... like a sleepy blue ocean. I dragged the kids to Newfoundland when they were young. Great memorable trip, and very productive from a photography perspective. Photograph also reminiscent of the novel The Shipping News by Annie Proulx. Much of the movie by the same name was filmed there. One of the greatest contemporary works of fiction, in my top five.
