It was Monday when they took out your blood and bone marrow. How could you keep this all to yourself when you could save a life? Besides, they found a potential donor and he is wealthy and ready to go on SpaceX again. On Tuesday, they demanded a kidney. You really only need one to function. You may think the quality of your life is important but this other person is a CEO of a major company. On Wednesday, they took out a lung and on Thursday your liver. Finally, they came for your heart on Friday.
You were a murderer, they said, for walking around with these things inside your body when you could save so many others. Your body is a ward of the state and you no longer have control over it.

I was milling around with a few other folks watching the activity at the river crossing late this afternoon. The action was pretty intense about now. There were horses in the trees behind me, bands of horses across the river, in the river, down the river. There was a lot going on and it was tough to decide what to focus on. Someone nearby said something like, "uh oh, trouble coming, look out behind you". I whirled around and pointed the camera, just in time to watch the chestnut body-slam and then kick at the gray. Geez.
Looking at the gray now, and the Righty gray in my post from yesterday, it's conceivable it's the same horse as this image is about 20 minutes before the gray pair posted yesterday. If that's so, then in the image from yesterday Lefty could be saying to Righty "Good job, you held your own against that rambunctious body-slammer." Furthermore, I'm elated I got any pics at all of this - straight into the setting sun practically. Lucky camera settings...

I'm a bit of a different type of concert photographer in that I'd rather photograph a raw and genuine local band than Taylor Swift. I love experiencing the vibrant local community of music that is Chicago. I hesitated to post this photo because this provocative punk band does not have any music recorded yet (They do have plans, though) but they were super fun and energetic and I look forward to hearing their debut album. I've seen so many great local bands in my city over the years that others may not ever have the chance to experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to document a movement, even a local one. Körperwelten sind seit 1996 bestehende Wanderausstellungen plastinierter, ĂŒberwiegend menschlicher Körper. Initiator der Ausstellungen ist der Anatom Gunther von Hagens. Die Ausstellungen sind auf Grund der Exponate umstritten.
Verfahren:
Das Verfahren lÀuft prinzipiell in vier Stufen ab:
Der erste Schritt ist die Fixierung in Formalin oder farberhaltenden Zubereitungen, welche das Gewebe stabilisieren und dadurch die Schrumpfung minimieren. AuĂerdem verhindert die Fixierung den Zerfall des Gewebes bei einer eventuell erforderlichen PrĂ€paration. Diese dient zur Freilegung und damit Darstellung bestimmter Strukturen mit Skalpell und Pinzette. PrĂ€parate fĂŒr die (âprimĂ€reâ) Scheibenplastination werden jetzt auf einer BandsĂ€ge oder mit einer anderen Schneidemaschine zerschnitten.
Bei dem sich anschlieĂenden Gefrieraustausch und der Entfettung wird dem PrĂ€parat in einem â25 °C kalten Aceton-Bad das Gewebewasser entzogen. Das Wasser gefriert, das Aceton löst erst das Wasser, dann gegebenenfalls bei Raumtemperatur das Fett heraus. Bei Bedarf wird noch grĂŒndlicher mit Dichlormethan entfettet, welches einen höheren Dampfdruck als Aceton hat. Wasser und Fett sind nun durch Aceton ersetzt.
Der dritte Schritt und der eigentliche Kern der Plastination ist die forcierte ImprĂ€gnierung. Hierbei wird das PrĂ€parat in einer Kunststofflösung unter Vakuum gesetzt. Durch den hohen Dampfdruck beginnt das Aceton zu sieden und âperltâ aus dem PrĂ€parat heraus. Dadurch entsteht ein Volumendefizit, sodass das gleiche Volumen an Kunststoff ins Gewebe hineingesaugt wird. Das PrĂ€parat ist danach vollkommen mit Kunststoff durchtrĂ€nkt und wird eventuell in die anatomisch richtige Stellung gebracht.
Der letzte Schritt ist die HĂ€rtung. Die Kunststoffe werden jetzt je nach Kunststoffart durch WĂ€rme, UV-Licht oder gasförmigen HĂ€rter auspolymerisiert. Bei der âsekundĂ€ren Scheibenplastinationâ wie auch bei der âTissue Tracing Techniqueâ erfolgen entscheidende Bearbeitungsschritte nach Abschluss der HĂ€rtung. Komplett plastinierte Körperteile, dicke Scheiben oder Blöcke werden bei der sekundĂ€ren Scheibenplastination in dĂŒnne parallele Scheiben geschnitten oder bei der Tissue Tracing Technique gezielt so geschliffen und zugeschnitten, dass anatomische Strukturen in Scheibenplastinaten verfolgt werden können.
Body Worlds (German title: Körperwelten) is a traveling exposition of preserved human bodies and body parts. In this exhibit what is enticed to see are real skinned humans and other anatomical structures of the body that have gone through the process of plastination. Plastination is âa process in which unite subtle anatomy and modern polymer chemistry.âPlastination is a process that a German man named Gunther Von Hagens created in the late 70âs in which the body is preserved to keep it from decaying.
Process:
There are four steps in the standard process of plastination: fixation, dehydration, forced impregnation in a vacuum, and hardening. Water and lipid tissues are replaced by curable polymers. Curable polymers used by plastination include silicone, epoxy and polyester-copolymer.
The first step of plastination is fixation. Fixation, frequently utilizing a formaldehyde based solution, serves two functions. Dissecting the specimen to show specific anatomical elements can be time consuming. Formaldehyde or other preserving solutions help prevent decomposition of the tissues. They may also confer a degree of rigidity. This can be beneficial in maintaining the shape or arrangement of a specimen. A stomach might be inflated or a leg bent at the knee for example.
After any necessary dissections have taken place, the specimen is then placed in a bath of acetone. Under freezing conditions, the acetone draws out all the water and replaces it inside the cells.
In the third step, the specimen is then placed in a bath of liquid polymer, such as silicone rubber, polyester or epoxy resin. By creating a vacuum, the acetone is made to boil at a low temperature. As the acetone vaporizes and leaves the cells, it draws the liquid polymer in behind it, leaving a cell filled with liquid plastic.
The plastic must then be cured with gas, heat, or ultraviolet light, in order to harden it.
A specimen can be anything from a full human body to a small piece of an animal organ, and they are known as 'plastinates'.[citation needed] Once plastinated, the specimens and bodies are further manipulated and positioned prior to curing (hardening) of the polymer chains.
Following on the positive response to my Wave Warrior photos, my theme for today is a single body boarder. Quite often when I take shots of people in the surf, I will select a few good surfers and follow them as they ride the waves.
