The Broad-bodied chaser is a medium-sized, broad-bodied dragonfly that is on the wing from May to July, and occasionally into August. It is a common dragonfly of ponds and small lakes. It regularly returns to the same perch after swift flights out across the water looking for insects. Mating occurs on the wing, often taking less than a minute, after which the female will find a suitable spot to lay her eggs; she hovers over the water, dipping the tip of her abdomen in and dropping her eggs on to vegetation below the surface. The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation and are declining in large parts of the global range. In Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, Syria, Libya, Tunisia and most likely in Morocco, leopard populations have already been extirpated.
Contemporary records suggest that the leopard occurs in only 25% of its historical global range. Leopards are hunted illegally, and their body parts are smuggled in the wildlife trade for medicinal practices and decoration.
Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but generally has a smaller, lighter physique. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.
The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength (which it uses to move heavy carcasses into trees), as well as its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas, and its ability to run at speeds of up to 58 kilometers per hour (36 mph). – Wikipedia

I was milling around with a few other folks watching the activity at the river crossing late this afternoon. The action was pretty intense about now. There were horses in the trees behind me, bands of horses across the river, in the river, down the river. There was a lot going on and it was tough to decide what to focus on. Someone nearby said something like, "uh oh, trouble coming, look out behind you". I whirled around and pointed the camera, just in time to watch the chestnut body-slam and then kick at the gray. Geez.
Looking at the gray now, and the Righty gray in my post from yesterday, it's conceivable it's the same horse as this image is about 20 minutes before the gray pair posted yesterday. If that's so, then in the image from yesterday Lefty could be saying to Righty "Good job, you held your own against that rambunctious body-slammer." Furthermore, I'm elated I got any pics at all of this - straight into the setting sun practically. Lucky camera settings...

I'm a bit of a different type of concert photographer in that I'd rather photograph a raw and genuine local band than Taylor Swift. I love experiencing the vibrant local community of music that is Chicago. I hesitated to post this photo because this provocative punk band does not have any music recorded yet (They do have plans, though) but they were super fun and energetic and I look forward to hearing their debut album. I've seen so many great local bands in my city over the years that others may not ever have the chance to experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to document a movement, even a local one.
