If anyone wants to see an amazing shot of the bluffs...check this out: www.flickr.com/photos/whitby61/35691438980/in/contacts/

The day I shot this I met a flickr friend for the first time...a super talented landscape photographer, Todd Murrison. After you check out the shot have a look at the rest of his stream....quite spectacular!

The Point Loma Tide Pools are located at the tip of Point Loma, a steep rocky peninsula which defines San Diego Bay and separates it from the Pacific Ocean. The tide pools face west and on a clear day, you can see the Coronado Islands and sail boats.

After spending the morning and noon at Carmel, it was time to set off for Big Sur, and the iconic landmark, Bixby Bridge.

I made a trip yesterday to Block Island, which was of course more challenging than usual due to Covid concerns. Block Island is about 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. I’d never been there off season before. A surprising number of people were on the ferry, but we were all of course wearing masks and “distancing” as required. I rented a bike and went out to Mohegan Bluffs, which are probably the most impressive cliffs you can find anywhere in New England. Anyway, New Shoreham, the town which technically covers the whole of Block Island, has a population of about 1100 inhabitants, they market themselves as the “smallest town in the smallest state”.

There are a surprising number of cars for such a small island. I saw a bumper sticker that read “Block Island, social distancing since 1651” :)

If you zoom in, you can see the stairs going down to the beach.

You can also see South East Lighthouse from 1875, more about that coming.

this little cove was immediately adjacent to horseshoe bay. it was just beautiful, like your own personal, private beach

I read about this place last week as they're planning on carting out whatever resources are left and turn it into a landfill site. Seems an awful shame! The locals are fighting it but I don't know what stage it's at now.

Descending the stairs at Mohegan Bluffs on Block Island. I can't say enough positive about this place. I think it's possibly the most breathtaking natural scenery that I know of in New England. I always enjoy this place immensely.

However, the weather was deceptively hot and humid. I'd rented a bike to get here, but with almost 90 degree temperatures this turned out to be very challenging.

At around 200 feet tall and carved from dolomite, Vilander bluff is the highest bluff overlooking the Meramec river. It holds some of the oldest cedars in the state due to the protection them from fires that the site provides. It is an offical Natural Area and is part of Onondaga Cave State Park near Bourbon Missouri.
