“We pledge to fight 'blue-sky thinking wherever we find it. Life would be dull if we had to look up at cloudless monotony day after day”...

~ Gavin Pretor-Pinney, The Cloudspotter's Guide

Life’s been a bit busy of late what with one thing and another. We picked the onions the other day and they’re now drying, some have started to sprout or trying to squeeze out. Could really do with a bit of breathing space so when I saw the onion flowers I knew what was needed a good quarter of an hour behind the lens. Thanks for stopping

There's water up there, but still no rain...

Cissbury Ring on a beautiful late Winter or Early Spring day.

Morning all.....wishing you all a pleasant day

I took this photograph using my Nikon D5300 and 18-140mm kit lens while out walking the dog. We were walking along the Rowthorne Trail in Derbyshire, England. There was some great clouds around. Played around with it in CS6 to give it more punch!

The stranger in red seems lost in thought as she gazes out across the landscape towards home.

Over 20 years ago, I took a similar picture to this and it has been on my parent's wall since then. Here is the updated 2017 version taken again from the Manly ferry

Visualise your life as a limitless blue sky stretching ahead of you each rigid expectation you set yourself invites a dark cloud, making the future seem ominous, try to let go of these expectations, and allow the wide horizon to open up.

Blue Sky Thinking

Returning to the box

The crayons

Obedient

And cooperative

Line up

Like workers on an elevator

Squeezed together

Shoulder to shoulder

Eyes on the floor

Numbers blinking

On and off

Until all spaces fill

And one crayon remains

Apart

Blue

Lost without a box

Unable to get off the ground

Drawn apart

Alone

Away from the crowd

Coloring the sky

Cloudless

I's all been a bit busy on my stream lately, so i've got a big blue helping of emptiness and calm this Monday morning to restore the balance a bit. One from the archives and the winter of 2010 on a bitterly cold but beautiful day at Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight.

And for those who've followed the ups and downs of the poorly baby the last few days... happiness is a solid poo :)

Mother Teresa of Calcutta Garden in Old Havana

St. Nicholas of Myra Greek Orthodox Church in Mother Teresa of Calcutta Garden at the back of the Convent of St. Francis of Assisi.

It was built by the Cuban government as a gift from the Cuban people to the Orthodox Church and was named after St. Nicholas who is the saint protector of sailors and ships.

Saint Nicholas of Myra, whose feast is on the 6th of December,is the patron saint of sailors and is often called upon by mariners who are in danger of drowning or being shipwrecked.Greek ships carry an icon of St. Nicholas as he is regarded the master of the winds and tempests.

Enjoy the green shades of the tropical garden and let me ponder,as usual ; there are thoughts which are prayers ; this may be the life of the mind, but it is no ivory tower ...

"Humans are naturally inquisitive and exploratory,we need the unknown, what historians of religion call "otherness," to lend our lives significance." David Nicholson-Lord

" To bliss unknown by lofty soul aspires, My lot unequal to my vast desires. " John Arbuthnot

"There is the feeling that God is everywhere, and the more I live, the more I see that in nature, in the country. When I see a tree, I see that God exists. I try to catch and to convey the idea that we have a soul and that the soul is in contact with God." Robert Bresson

Epic Poetry in Ancient Greece & Religion

According to many religious historians,St.Nicholas’ life story and legends resemble much of the mythology and legends attributed to the ancient Greek God Poseidon.

A further interesting connection, between St. Nicholas and Poseidon, lies in the Books XI and XXIII of Homer’s Odyssey epic poem.Odysseus is instructed by the blind prophet Tiresias to offer a sacrifice to Poseidon, and then his journeys would be over.

Where do Mythology and Religion intersect? Where do they diverge? Do we ascribe to myth what we don’t understand ?

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Myth & Theology

As a result of a sudden impulse and without forethought,I brought to my mind the term theology as it appears in the writings of the Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle.

Initially, theology and mythology were synonymous. With time though,

both terms gained distinctive qualities and the word myth, which is associated with the unreal world and fiction, got another meaning in academic discourse; a myth is also defined as a set of beliefs or assumptions progressing towards truth.

I also recalled the theories of some distinguished scholars and writers on the subject matter, such as :

J.R.R. Tolkien's love of myths and devout Catholic faith came together in his assertion that mythology is the divine echo of "the Truth".Tolkien wrote that myths held "fundamental things".

He expressed these beliefs in his poem Mythopoeia circa 1931,which describes myth-making as an act of "sub-creation" within God's primary creation.Yet,C.S. Lewis adopted Tolkien's opinion despite the disagreement they had over some aspects of Christian Theology.

PS : What a Coincidence !!!

After leaving St. Nicholas Orthodox church,I found the Greek God Poseidon Ruling over the Caribbean Sea on El Malecon Esplanade.

Hope to See You there too;

Some early morning brainstorming with my colleague Tom included some true Blue-sky thinking. We have offices in one of the Piers in San Francisco, which is cool, but very distracting.

"they went on forever . . . and had little fluffy clouds in them . . ."

State-of-the-Art buses working for Lothian's flagship Airlink Service 100, introduced in 2010, are saying farewell today as a new fleet of Volvo B5LH / Wright Eclipse Gemini 3's come into service on July the 1st.

Volvo B9TL / Wright Eclipse Gemini 2, number 943 (SN10 DKU) is seen on Princes Street with its Blue Sky Thinking swirly branding.

The new fleet, numbers 426 to 437 will wear a much simpler livery and will take passengers to and from Edinburgh Airport on a 24 hour service, replacing the remaining group 939 to 950.

Standby for the new body design and that's going to be the story of the day!

I'm completely fascinated with this red foliage that's popped up near work. I thought I would grab a shot of it before the council mowers destroy it completely.

Also thought I would inject a little bit of colour into the slightly overcast British summer ;)

Gentleshaw Common is a local GoTo place, the seasons excel here, on this occasion though the draw was a weird cloud, all else needed but secondary.

Had fun manipulating, not always necessary but it's no crime and here I'm confident it works.

Death ain't nothin' but a heart beat away

-----------------------------------------

I led my lover to the sea

Down to the water's edge

The sun shone in the darkening sky

I held her hand

She looked at me, the way she always does

We kiss just as before

The bell that sounds the end of days hovers overhead

I held her tight in sweet embrace

Time and breath suspend her beating heart

My hands were strong

I heard her cry

Will you stay forever, like a lover should

It was dark and you were gone

Somewhere beyond the sea, it ebbs and flows

The spirit sleeps, my lover lies

I felt her go and leave me behind

in the evening light that shines so bright

at the end of days
