This was Noah's second time in our church's gym. This was his response to

seeing kids playing with basketballs in the gym. It was a bit like a deer in

the headlights, just frozen. I love his posture, he's leaning in with rapt

attention, mesmerized by the shiny new floor, and sounds of balls being

dribbled and pounded into the wood floor.

I was volunteering later on, and missed seeing Noah wander back time and

time again to re-experience the gym. What was I doing? I was making cotton

candy!

It was tons of fun, and a bit messy. I wore an apron from home, but it was

my arms and hair that got the most messy. By the time I was done, about 2

hours later, my hair had a sticky cloud of sugar lightly crisped up. It was

really funny. I had never seen so many flavors. They had lemon (not a hit

with the kids), lime, silly nilly pink, and my favorite, green apple. I

would seriously consider a part time job at the state fair making cotton

candy now...

To Dh's horror, I offered some cotton candy to Noah. He refused to open his

mouth to taste it .

Recently the Flickr folks blogged a photo (collage) of mine. The graph here shows what happened to my view count on that photo over the next few weeks.

On the Flickr blog, as with most blogs, there's a front page that contains the last several days' postings, with the most recent at the very top. There's a link at the bottom where you can find postings that have dropped off the front page.

(0) I originally uploaded the collage a few months earlier, and it had maybe 150 or so views, mostly from the early days. In the 4 weeks leading up to (1), there had been maybe a dozen or two views.

(1) 31 January 2008, Flickr blogged. Maybe because a weekend intervened, or maybe the folks at Flickr just didn't have anything new to say, my entry remained at the top of the front page for the next several days, and got several hundred hits each day it was up there.

(2) 5 February 2008, new blog entry. My photo was still on the front page, but no longer at the top. View count dropped off to about 80-120 views per day. This rate held steady as more entries pushed the photo further down the page.

(3) 14 February 2008, off the front page. Since then, with the exception of 16 February (when I guess it was too cold for people to go outside and play), the view count has been steady in the range of 10-25 views per day.

Along the way (so far) the photo has collected twice as many favourites as my next-most-favourited photo, and is currently ranked #8 on my most-viewed list. It doesn't seem likely to rise higher unless another unusual event occurs, as all my other high-ranking photos still get as many or more views. Plus, my photo is just about to drop off Page 2 of the blog; the view count might drop again, although it's low enough already that that may be difficult to conclude reliably. And this meta-posting could affect something, too.

Today I worked with some of our young students on the concept of blogging and used a photo which I had favourited from Colemama. She gave me the okay to use the photo and here are the results. If any of you want to reply to any of the comments there, feel free to do so.

Without question, the best concert I've ever attended.
