Otero Co., New Mexico
Identifiable by two black spots on each side, these lizards blend in completely with the white dunefields while populations in the rest of the region outside of White Sands are darker colored.

Something a little different from me.....
It's taken a while, but I decided to post this image I took during a display of vintage cars at Steamfest (Maitland, NSW; Australia) earlier this year.
The silver and chrome cried out for a retro look - so I've edited this using a bleached technique - hope you like it!
I used a WA lens to emphasize and exaggerate the bulbous curves of the wheel arches here.
Thanks for any comments, views or favorites - much appreciated!!
Have a fabulous day and weekend everyone!!!

the strange lighting was provided by dense fog, and a single shaft of light broke through to light this old pile of bleached wood
A great, lonely skeleton, white-bleached by the sun stands sentinel on the high rocky slopes of an exposed mountainside. Once, these slopes were covered with forests of Ceder trees. Climate change, indiscriminate logging and man-caused fire have rendered the population a tiny fraction of what it once was. The landscape is strewn with these stark reminders of our own mortality, and our impact as humans even in this wild place.
Beauty there is in death even, and textured white timber reaches up to touch a blue, cold sky.
[note: Widdringtonia cederbergensis, which occurs in the world only in this small mountain range, has been declared an endangered species. Efforts are being made to cultivate and replant in order to bring the population back to a self-sustainable level. Now, saplings can be found in some places, hiding amongst boulders, away from fire. Loggers' axes are no longer heard. Only the wind sighing softly though the tight evergreen leaves of the living trees.]
"He walks for twenty days
just to see her face.
He walks for twenty-five miles,
just to see her smile,
and he flies through the night sky
where the trees comb out his hair,
he walks for twenty-five miles
just to find her barely there.
Away."

A pair of CF-18 Hornets from 409 Tac F Sqn, 4 Wing Cold Lake bank left after the first flyby over Commonwealth Stadium Friday evening. A good friend, Peter Carroll suggest I try the bleached bypass technique for an edgier appearance.
i took a picture of this truck because i really liked the sticker on the window... which got bleached out with light. however, i figured the yellow texture was still sexy and worth posting.
(there was no photoshop editing except for what it takes for me to post a pic)
I am going to screen print on these in a month or so. Not sure what yet. If you have ideas let me know.
Captain Lawrence's final toast to his ship was: "May God bless you, and may your bones bleach in the sands."
The Peter Iredale near Fort Stevens, Oregon coast
I played around with old photos, water and bleach. It was fun, I understood how it works, and I'll do some more intentional ones soon.

The two Australian exhibitions were: "Olympia: Photographs by Polixeni Papapetrou". It is the first major museum retrospective of Australian photographer Polixeni Papapetrou (1961–2018), and a moving portrayal of her daughter as she grew from a child into a young woman.
This large scale photographic mural, however, comes from the exhibition of "Petrina Hicks: Bleached Gothic". Hicks' work (coming from an advertising background) is quite extraordinary. This little video produced by the NGV givers some excellent context to this and the following photograph.
Once again, I am not so much interested in reproducing Hicks' work as highlighting how it was presented in the show. I was taken here by the complex array of lines and shadows in the gallery space.
Toning cyanotype print with tea tannins.
Starting from a cyanotype and after bleaching (washing soda).
I toned the print with brewed tea for several hours.
The result is not what I expected, I wanted to achieve a tone close to black!
1st: I think that the bleaching is too much, it results in a loss of density.
2nd: tea gives too brown tones.
For the next toning test I will use coffee without bleaching.
Bleaching time: 45 sec (15gr of Sodium Carbonate with one liter of water at room temp.
Toning time: 15 mn at 40°C (4 tablespoons of black tea brewed during 2 hours before)
Bleak bleached winter hills... Looking toward the sea is misleading, emerald patches of improved grazing, the vivid salt marsh of the foreshore, and the colourful reflective sea itself catch the eye. Turn inland and there is only an ocean of bleached vegetation, heather, bog cotton, deer grass, bog asphodel and sundews, rippling in the wind.
