These are the two gulls commonly found in our area, but I've never had the opportunity for a side-by-side comparison before. In fact, they were the only two gulls around. They are standing on rough-surfaced ice.
The larger gull is an adult Herring Gull (Larus argentatus); the smaller is an adult Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis). Ring-billed are very common in the summer; Herring Gulls are not common in the summer.
Their differences are very well seen in this picture: bill colors, leg color, and most obviously their sizes.
Many plovers are primarily shorebirds. While Killdeer sometimes are found on shorelines, they are often found on lawns, in parks, and even in parking lots.
This Killdeer was seen at Lake Erie Metropark, in the parking lot. His high-pitched call was very similar to "killdeer-killdeer", which is how he got his name!
I'm jumping the gun a bit on Bokeh Wednesdays, but I'm somehow running out of shots from the weekend and this is one of my favourites, so here goes.

Phyllidia babai is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a shell-less marine gastropod mollusk in the family Phyllidiidae.
The specific name babai is in honor of the Japanese malacologist Kikutaro Baba. This nudibranch has a cream to light yellow coloured dorsum with white tubercles in the center of black rings and the mantle finely edged in yellow. The clavus of each rhinophore has 21 to 24 lamellae, and the rhinophoral pocket is trimmed in white. Its white-coloured, pointed, oral tentacles have lateral grooves, and they also are trimmed in yellow. The ventral surface is a pale cream colour. The Blackr crowned night heron is a constant at the pond/park across the streett. Very lucky and see just about any animal or bird there. It is cool HWW

I went out to Ala Moana Beach Park last weekend to try out my new elbow bracket (specifically acquired for taking panorama panels in the vertical/portrait format for more coverage of sky and foreground). Anyway, I get to the beach about 30 minutes before the sun sets and I walk around looking for the perfect spot. EUREKA! I've found it!!! So, I set up my gear, and I am ready. I'm also getting plenty wet from the tide washing over my ankles and knees but, it's gonna be worth it to catch this sunset panorama...
...until...
Two girls (sisters) decided to watch the sunset themselves while wading around in the water--
right in front of me... *sigh* I thought, "They're in my way!" (...as if I owned the beach.) So I decided to take multiple frames and clone them out later since they'd move around. But, as it always happens time after time after time, it's the unintended shots that wind up being your winners from the session!
I'm reminded that photography isn't always about capturing just the still environment around you, but life as it happens around you as well--and this was a moment certainly made nicer by their presence. It was sweet to see the older sister watching after her younger one... warning her not to step off the ledge; holding her hand so she wouldn't slip on the coral, etc. If memory serves, I don't think I was that protective of my little sis, (was I Jill?)

Autumn spent the day with me, so we wandered down to the rail road tracks and found a huge plastic bag filled with leaves..
The bag of leaves was most likely from someone who had cleaned them up, but we decided to rip it open and use them to our advantage =).
I took about 500 photos... so it is extremely likely that I will be posting more.

This area of shore has brush and trees between you & the water with windows here & there of visibility. It is where I find grebes very close & can get a shot or 2 before they spot me, dive and come back up way out on the lake.

Update: I will be taking a short break from all of the websites that I frequent, such as Flickr, deviantArt, Facebook, etc.. This break is happening because I have a lot of school work to be done within the next two/three weeks, and I have procrastinated it for far too long.. A lot of my procrastination is induced by spending countless hours on these websites. So, I have removed all of my short cuts from my tool bar, and changed my home page to a page that I created with my list of work to be done. I am not allowing myself to go on any website that is not related to school, until I am completely finished. It's actually very difficult, because I have constant urges to just go to them by habit.
So, I will see you all soon =).

While taking these photos I also made a stop motion, which I will get around to posting soon. Shortly after finishing it a train started to come (I was on the train tracks), so I had to run to the side.. But I sat on the hill next to the tracks and watched as the train passed me, it was kind of relaxing in a sense.

I saw Muse in Boston this past Saturday night and it was just incredible. They put on such an amazing show. Also, The Silversun Pickups opened for them, and I was really impressed.. They sound exactly the same live as they do on the radio, which is impressive because not a lot of bands do these days.
Nonetheless, Muse was just fantastic, I had so so much fun.
For this photo I stuck a bunch of CDs to the wall, and hung my Christmas lights from the ceiling, behind the camera so that they would reflect off of the CDs.
