Something I learned during my visit to Phoenix was how the folks find and eliminate scorpions. Using a small blacklight (flashlight) at night, the light will illuminate the scorpion so they can be seen and sprayed. We found many more than I imagined was possible.
So even though this photo doesn't hold much detail for the those who like to examine pixels, it was still a cool shot for a nighttime, blacklight image. The background is a stucco wall.

So I came across this big bony fishy friend the other day, and saw one of the available packs had this blacklight color option. It reminded me of an old system skin I have in those same colors, that I then found out I can't use cause it doesn't work for EVOX heads. Womp Womp. :(
But then I remembered *this* skin existed and that it has tintable base, highlight, and shadow layers. So obviously I had to get it, and tint it (and my tail) to match my fishy friend.

Although I set up the composition, my roommate was actually the real mastermind behind this picture. I am not sure what series of events led him to this discovery, but when he told me his soccer cleats glowed in blacklight, I knew I had my photo for the day. Might need to experiment with this a bit more. I feel like I could do some really cool things with this :)
Our first blacklight shooting was a full success :)
I will try to upload more pictures shortly, Until than you can find more pictures on instagramm ;)

This is at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. They have this neat small blacklight aquarium that just these small jellyfish.
It is the most relaxing thing in the world to watch them billow around (even though I hate getting stung by them).
It's the end of the storm.
The last black clouds are leaving.

Experimenting with new toys... this one's a small battery powered blacklight we used at Burning Man.
What a great night for shooting! Friday night we had these wonderful clouds - extremely rare in Santa Barbara (probably only 2 or 3 nights per year have both clouds and a moon full enough to shoot by). They are usually blown inland or out to sea by the evening winds. But these remained until well after midnight...
More where this came from!
My blacklight really made this glow. A very exciting find. I thought must be fungus. Anyone recognize it? I took tons of photos. I even brought it inside to see if I could get better shots.
A mile down a dirt road outside Mojave Califorina, we stumbled upon a cluster of derelict double- and triple-wide trailers. They once held deluxe offices, full bathrooms (with showers) and kitchens, now they're garbage, weathered and sandblasted, punished by the high desert. It made for a surreal juxtaposition, these big vistas, combined with these blank, mundane rooms. A fun night of shooting. Red, green and purple light from the Protomachines flashlight, during a 141 second exposure. Full moon too.
