This was taken at the beautiful and unspoiled beach at Stokksnes in Iceland. It’s known for its incredible black lava dunes and is overlooked by the mountain of Vestrahorn. I could easily have spent a few days here just photographing the beach in the ever changing conditions created by the enigmatic Icelandic weather. So many places to visit, so little time to do it (sigh)

In de avond nog een enkel straaltje zon door de wolken op het strand...wat was dit een geweldig licht-moment...wat een eer voor mij om op dit moment hier te staan...zooo onvergetelijk....
In the evening a single ray of sun through the clouds on the beach... this was such a great light moment... what an honor for me to be here at this moment... sooo unforgettable....

Vik, Iceland. Black beach in the "town" of Vik. 300 inhabitants roughly and around 70 km to the next "town".

A shot of vestrahorn in Iceland from the famous sand dunes. Was my first time visiting this location and whilst I wasn’t blessed with light an 8 minute exposure helped draw as much colour as possible from the sky.

Dieser Strandabschnitt ist wirklich schwarz, der Gegensatz zum hellen Wasser hat mich sehr fasziniert!

This beach section is really black, the contrast to the bright water has me very fascinated!

We find the works of nature still more pleasant, the more they resemble those of art.

This photo was taken at Black Beach, Vik, Iceland. We were there at the end of the day and able to catch the last light of the day. It was a stormy day and I believe this image capture the atmosphere of that evening.
Diamond beach. The arriving ice that has fallen off a glacier contrasts beautifully with this black beach in the south of Iceland.
A spectacular feature of the Taranaki coast were the Twin Arches. Few people ever got to see them. They collapsed some time in early 2017 less than a year after I took this picture.

Dyrhólaey promontory on the southern point of Iceland.
That day there was a strong wind and a rough sea. It was difficult to make the photos under these conditions with the mist that pearles on the lenses and the wind that drops the tripod. This place is known for bad weather most days of the year.

The black sand accentuates the translucent quality of the ice (hey and that horizon is straight - its an optical illusion that makes it look otherwise ;-) )
Vestrahorn, Klifatindur massif and black sand dunes of Kirkjusandur beach with yellow tufts of grass (between Vestrahorn and Stokksnes, South Iceland)
