Vy Sovanna, a midwife working with PSI Cambodia, promotes a local clinic, to be held the following day, providing birth control for local women.
PSI (Population Services International) is working in this area to provide counselling and access to birth control to women as part of their reproductive health program.
PSI is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. that harnesses the vitality of the private sector to address the health problems of low-income and vulnerable populations in more than 60 developing countries. With programs in malaria, reproductive health, child survival, HIV and tuberculosis, PSI promotes products, services and healthy behavior that enable low-income and vulnerable people to lead healthier lives. Products and services are sold at subsidized prices rather than given away in order to motivate commercial sector involvement.

Compilation of the Krautrock label Ohr, published in 1971. 2 LPs, both good, particularly the second one, which has mostly instrumental tracks that are unusually experimental and long for a compilation. Some of them, however, have been cut shorter. Well, they had to make some compromise, I guess. Annexus Quam is gigantic.
I have another Ohr compilation, called Ohrenschmaus, with similar music. But I don't like its cover so I won't post it on Flickr.

I had to stage a photo for the cover of Red Letter Daze this evening about sexual health. We'd decided that birth control was the way to go, but that led to the awkward announcement in the office "Does anyone have birth control that we can borrow?" (which was later followed by "does anyone have colorful condoms?")
We obviously got some and got the photo we needed. Unfortunately birth control is kind of boring looking, so I had to do a lot of poking around in Photoshop to make it look moderately interesting. I ended up going with a lomo/vintage/old style treatment and from what I saw before I left, the cover looks pretty awesome! We'll see on Friday!
In the 90's during Alberto Fujimori's presidential reign the Peruvian government had a controversial birth control program. In total some 300,000 (272,028 women and 22,004 men) were sterilised and thousands have since claimed that it happened without their consent. They were almost exclusively indigenous people living in rural areas of Peru.

Alberto Fujimori was recently released from prison eight years early resulting in protests throughout Peru.

In case anyone missed it, yesterday the Supreme Court decided that employers could get out of ensuring free access to birth control because of either a "religious" or "moral" objection. For the last 20 years in America, polls have shown that only 20% or less of citizens here want abortion to be illegal and I would imagine that in terms of access to birth control pills, people are even more liberal. This is yet another way that Trump has undone Obamacare and also a way for employers to cheapen out on looking out for their employees.
If you've been following the decline in women's rights over the last four years, you will recall that we have a man in office who stole the election and actively engaged in friendships with sex traffickers like Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, liked to hang around Miss America locker rooms, has had several accusations of rape against him and has paid off prostitutes and made all kinds of threats towards women in addition to threatening to grab their genitals. (I guess that's still good enough for the religious wrong as long as they can still control women's bodies, though).
So of course, he would put in a rapist and sex predator Brett Kavanaugh himself who, when confronted with reality with those who actually wanted to hold him accountable in his nefarious actions towards Christine Blasey Ford had the proclamation of "I like beer!" as a response followed by the whining of a bunch of republicans that don't believe they should ever be held accountable for anything they do that endangers the American public after they stonewalled the perfectly decent nomination of Merrick Garland from an actually truly elected Obama who never committed treason once in 8 years unlike our current crapload of a demon who negotiated a stolen election, paid a foreign entity for "dirt" on Biden and recently sold out American soldiers because p.s. Russia is not actually our BFF.
Since Trump has been in office, states like Oklahoma have been referring to women's bodies as "hosts" and funding has been drastically cut for Planned Parenthood. We have a bunch of mainly white male politicians severely limiting access to abortions in every state and now, they are even limiting access to birth control. Who will this impact the most? Women who cannot afford to pay out of pocket and therefore definitely could not afford to have a child but of course, in the battle to just control our bodies, men aren't thinking about that (or maybe they are because they do seem to like to watch women suffer.)
In many ways, I believe that women should stop sexual intercourse with men altogether. As I am myself with a male partner and realize how difficult this is, I will say at the very least women should ensure that their partners support their reproductive rights to choose. I realize that not all men are against our rights as witnessed by the fact that there were a lot of men in attendance at these protests and I know several men in my own life who are progressive about this. Unfortunately, these men are not running for any political office.
As far as a religious or moral objection, this is not about "pro life" This is about anti-choice and trapping women. This is about saying, "Your freedom to have control over your body is worth nothing to me because you are a woman and I want to control you!" The dissenters for that Supreme Court Case? Yep, that's right, the 2 women.
So why have women continued to allow this to happen when we make up over half the population? That's a good question. Though I see positive changes, women have been kept out of running for political office in every facet-locally and nationally for so long that it is going to take some time to catch up. Women are also kept out of major corporations as big shareholders and CEOs and the amount of lobbying and dark money that goes into these things is insane.
Even more problematic, though it is changing in a positive way, women did not embrace inter-sectional feminism earlier on in the beginning of the movement. In other words, white women wanted rights for other white women. The very women I have been taught to revere like Susan B. Anthony, for example, were only looking out for themselves. By doing so, they basically doomed us all. And, it is changing. I was pleased to revisit some of my old photos of Women's Marches and even in 2017 there were many women holding BLACK LIVES MATTERS signs and that struck me as highly positive. Because, part of what I don't understand about the Black Lives Matter movement is why it took so long for people to get this outraged when I have been feeling like this for years now and it is nothing new that cops are murdering innocent people because they happened to be born with Black skin.
What we have to remember is limiting the freedom and livelihood of other human beings hurts us all. Do we want to live in a super oppressive society where rich white men continue to control these harsh policies against us? How has that worked out so far? If we want progress, we have to work together inclusively and productively. We have to join hands and embrace and show empathy towards others who may first seem unlike us but are alike in the most important of ways-aligned in our quest for human rights.
I don't know what the answer is here besides obviously voting and inclusive empathy. I hope things will change if Trump doesn't manage to steal another election after he has held rallies and not been held accountable for surges in Coronavirus infections of his base, which is just about the dumbest political strategy I've heard of yet.

In Texas, there's yet another new dangerous law that states anyone who even drives a woman to seek an abortion can be put in prison. Already there, it's almost impossible to have legal abortions because there are so few clinics and you have to have a funeral for your fetus if you go through with it. Our very male and typically very white male lawmakers are slowly chipping at our rights.
Remember, in a couple of states (Arkansas and Oklahoma), men can literally rape a woman and then have a say about whether or not she has an abortion because all women are just "hosts" for the sperm of men.
It was also leaked that Trump wants to make it so that employers don't have to cover any birth control, including the birth control pill. So now, we're really not talking about the sanctity of "life" or any of their absolute lies based on a religion they don't seem to follow in any other context.
I don't understand how they can do this to 50%+ of the population and get away with it. One of my co-workers asked, "Why would they do this to women?" It's a good question. After all, these politicians certainly had mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives.
It's because they want to control us.

I think, but could be wrong, that this is the only part of the country where vasectomy billboards are common. I had gotten use to the plethora pf billboards for plastic surgery of all types but there are a lot of old people here looking for that magic bullet. Vasectomy however seems to be a niche market that I would not associate with flashy road side billboards.
It never dawns on some people to use birth control.

I rarely put up images or video that are political but I believe a woman's right to affordable health care makes for stronger families and healthier women including mothers and future mothers. Watch the video , learn the facts and call or write you own congress person to keep funding for Medicare and to fully fun women's health services including Planned Parenthood. This will save lives.

Meet Viola – she’s a mother of six from Mubende, Uganda. Viola (30) only heard about family planning after she had her sixth child two years ago. She was keen to access contraception as she has been pregnant every other year for over a decade and wanted to focus on bringing up her family.
“I have six children and it’s quite difficult to look after them. At least now I am able to do my housework and support my husband with the farming because I’m not pregnant or have an infant to look after”.
Viola accessed family planning services for the first time last year through a programme led by the Ministry of Health and coordinated by PATH which introduced a new, innovative injectable contraception called Sayana Press. The introduction of Sayana Press in Uganda was supported by UK aid as well as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, UNFPA, and USAID. Investing in family planning provides long term benefits for whole families, communities and countries, helping to stop the cycle of poverty and improving lives now and in the future.
On 11 July the UK will co-host an international summit on family planning in London with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

It's strange how people see the Pope as a good person. Compared to his predecessor, Pope Benedict, maybe. It's almost like they already forgot: He still rejects gay marriage in fear of its potential to destroy the "traditional" family. He still passionately supports an international prohibition on birth control, even in poor and AIDS-ravaged countries. He compares transgender people to nuclear weapons in their ability to wreak havoc on the "natural order of creation." He victim-blamed the dead writers of Charlie Hebdo with the suggestion that free speech must end where criticism of religion begins.
Sometimes us men need to know the truth about birth control. Hell, this may even help some ladies out there. This is a great commercial by Cracked that demonstrates what a commercial for birth control would look like if it was straight up and honest with you.

Op de ingestelde tijd waarschuwt de wekker om de 24 uur met een alarmbel en een rood licht wanneer de pil moet worden ingenomen, waarop het deksel van het pillendoosje openspringt.
