Mallards are large ducks with hefty bodies, rounded heads, and wide, flat bills. Like many “dabbling ducks” the body is long and the tail rides high out of the water, giving a blunt shape. In flight their wings are broad and set back toward the rear.Male Mallards have a dark, iridescent-green head and bright yellow bill. The gray body is sandwiched between a brown breast and black rear. Females and juveniles are mottled brown with orange-and-brown bills. Both sexes have a white-bordered, blue “speculum” patch in the wing.

Es una especie endémica de los Esteros del Iberá del noreste de Argentina y del este de Paraguay. Prefiere pastizales inundados con pastos altos y no perturbados.
La hembra tiene la cabeza y dorsal, pardas ocráceas, la garganta blanquecina. Franja ocre en el pecho. Región ventral ocrácea. Alas pardas y ocres. Cola parda y ocre, con dos plumas negras alargadas, estructuralmente como en el macho, pero prácticamente reducidas al raquis y que terminan en pequeñas raquetas.

“Fire”
Ilunabarra Zambeze ibaian, Victoria ur-jauzietatik gertu (Zimbabwe) - Atardecer en el río Zambeze, cerca de las Cataratas Victoria (Zimbabwe).
Nuestro viaje llegaba a su fin, y nuestra última tarde en Zimbabwe teníamos planificado bajar a la base de las Cataratas Victoria y navegar cerca de ellas en lanchas rápidas. No pudimos hacer esta actividad, debido al bajo caudal de agua en esa época. Por ello, nuestra opción alternativa fue realizar un crucero al atardecer por el Río Zambeze. Allí vivimos uno de los momentos más especiales de toda la ruta, presenciando un increíble atardecer rojo como solo pueden verse en África. Aproveché que un bando de pájaros se acercaba hacia nosotros en pararelo a la superficie del agua para tomar esta foto.
