🐦 El tordo sargento (Agelaius phoeniceus), también conocido como Sargento Alirrojo, Tordo Alirrojo, Tordo Capitán o Turpial Alirrojo, es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Icteridae. Es un pájaro de hábitos migratorios que habita en zonas húmedas y terrenos de cultivo de América del Norte y Central.

Y que rol tienen esos vistosos listones rojos en los hombros?Estas manchas son vitales en la defensa del territorio. Los machos con las manchas más grandes son más efectivos al ahuyentar a sus rivales no territoriales y tienen mayor éxito en contiendas dentro de aviarios.

⚠️ Quizá sea el ave nativa más abundante de América del Norte, con una población estimada de ciento noventa millones de individuos para 1974 solo en Estados Unidos, por lo que ha sido clasificado como especie bajo preocupación menor. Sus poblaciones crecieron enormemente a mediados del siglo XX

Another Cute Pygmy Owl

This little guy was content to stay high in the tree. No cool background for him, so why not go high key? We scouted many miles across the snowy roads to find these guys. While the searching was long, the payoff was made it worthwhile. Many thanks to Khanh Tran for his spotting skills and knowlege about owls and habitat.

Owling in the Okanogan with expert owl tracker Khanh Tran. He spotted this little guy way up in the trees. Not sure how there were any remaining leaves in the tree.d

This little guy was very comfortable in the cluster of branches in this tree. He is looking down at me because the only way I could photograph the owl was to lay on my back in the mud. Guess an extension tube or shorter lens is in order...

Die Haubenlerche ist ein Brutvogel der südlichen borealen Zone von West- und Südwesteuropa bis nach Korea und dem Gelben Meer. Die Südgrenze verläuft von Senegal und Gambia, Nigeria, Sudan, dem Norden Kenias und der Küste Arabiens über den Nordosten Indiens bis ins Tiefland von Nepal. Im Nordosten des Brutareals ist die Haubenlerche ein Zugvogel, ansonsten ein Standvogel. Für einzelne Individuen sind jedoch sehr weite Wanderungen nachgewiesen. Ihr Bestand in Westeuropa ist hochgradig gefährdet - in einigen Gebieten Deutschlands ist sie sogar ganz verschwunden (z.B. Hamburg).
