Eva: Dave! I found some birds!
Dave: Good job. Looks like you have them under control.
Eva: Yup. Total control. But why aren't they moving?
Dave: They must be petrified of the bird dog in house.
Eva: Then why don't they smell like birds?
Dave: I don't have a clever answer for that.
Eva: I'm starting to think they aren't real.
Dave: Yup. Not real. Little ceramic guys that we bought for decorations.
Eva: Did you buy them for me for my birthday? Because I did ask you to buy me some birds for my birthday.
Dave: Nope. Not for your birthday. We bought them for decorations at the cabin.
Eva: By the way ... just because they're not real doesn't mean that I'm not going to spend a lot of time staring at them.
Dave: Ok. I kind of figured that.
Eva: And, just because you got away with buying me fake birds for my birthday this year doesn't mean that I won't expect real birds for my birthday next year.
------------
The ceramic birds truly are for at the cabin, and not for her third birthday that was just last week. But, she really does quite like them.
Macie went to her brother Dex's training class to meet her future teacher. She had a fun time meeting his classmates and walking through town. Here she is at a park afterwards a little tired and in need for a nap.
Eva: Hey bird! Bird! Are you listening to me?
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: What do you mean coo? Yes, of course I'm talking to you.
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: What? Are you calling me cute? I'm not cute I'm your worst nightmare!
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: Okay. We may have a failure to communicate here.
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: Yes, Cooo-municate. Glad to see that you're trying. Maybe I can train you to speak after all.
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: No, not choo choo. That's the wrong type of train. I meant train you as in teach you something.
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: Okay. I'm having a little trouble with your dialect. So I'm just going to bark louder and louder until you get what I'm saying.
Bird: Cooo. Cooo.
Eva: Now you're just being a jerk. If you want louder, I can do louder!
Dave: Eva, can you come inside and stop waking up the neighbours?
Eva: But I was having a conversation with the bird, not the neighbours. I think I'll stay outside and just chat a little bit longer.
----------
Sunday morning and I was unsure what to do with her photo of the week. And then a pigeon showed up on the back fence and I had my answer. Our deck is fenced in, but when Eva is particularly excited about something she sticks her nose through the fence so she can get that last little bit closer.
We often have sparrows on the fence, which Eva appears to have negotiated a truce with. But, we don't often get pigeons visiting, and Eva apparently wants to keep it that way. Or maybe she wants him to come by more often. They never did get that far in their conversation.
A busy day today, so just a quick post this morning. I hope to come back later to check on other people's photos.

Over the last couple months, I've spent a lot less time wandering around Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean and a lot more time sitting on the cool kitchen floor with Scotch taking as many portraits as he'll tolerate. He still has his upticks in energy each day and a desire to play but not the stamina for it so I limit his activity and let him sleep a lot.
When I got into manual photography less than 2 years ago, it only made sense for Scotch to tag along as I went out exploring with camera and tripod. He always loved the car and I loved the company. As my focus shifted more and more towards long exposure, his enjoyment of these trips probably lessened a bit and it became a little more difficult for me. The solution often was to explore with him and mark places to return to for long exposures without him later on.
We left for California 9 months ago tomorrow and that incredible 4,000+ mile road trip seems like so long ago at this point. I had become pretty obsessed with photography in the months leading up to this trip and it continued for several months after we arrived. The more I focused on photography, the less portraits I shot of the dog. While the sunsets and sky the last few months haven't been all that appealing to shoot, it has given me the opportunity to return to what got me into photography in the first place: photos of Scotch.
It hasn't been very easy for me to come to terms with his aging and everything at this point is new for me. I began to photograph him when he had serious health issues as a puppy and the vets didn't know how long he'd be around. Then, for most of the next decade, I had to shoot on auto mode and with a zoom lens because I simply couldn't keep up with him. Almost 13 years later, he's still around, still very happy and sweet and still has no objections to me photographing him. At least now he doesn't make me chase after him in a 200 acre field to get his photo :)

Went to the bank early this morning and came back by the Hazeldale Park and a lady was walking her dog off leash.. He was very well behaved and she said he wasn't even a year old yet.. I knew he was young but as she said you have to start them young and he was a real love and as usual, I forgot to ask his name...
