I can always find peace when I'm with birds. Here's sharing peace to all of you, my friends, and bird lovers. Taken at the crane pool at Bosque Del Apache NWR, New Mexico, amongst the mist and sun rising...

This little acrobat will fly off the branch and in short loops will catch the fly, Sometimes I just watch them like bird lovers do with Binoculars.

Please check this one from last year.

This is one of the longest migrating raptors in the planet. The annual migration covers around 22,000 Km - 30,000 km / 14-18,000 miles starting from Siberia / Northern Mongolia to India and onward to South Africa. From the coasts of India, they fly over the sea to Africa covering around 3-4000 kms nonstop without touching the ground for 5-6 days.

The birds are making a stopover briefly at a hill station near Mumbai for a couple of weeks and 100's of bird lovers like me make a visit to watch them and get some pictures.

These falcons seem to prefer these wild lavender fields where they hunt for insects and caterpillars. They spend sometime in them walking around and looking for insects. Such fields are spread over the lakebed and the birds keep flying between them.

Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

The last picture of 2022 - finally, a good shot of "THE" Amur Falcon - this has been a dream for years now.

The birds were hunted in very large numbers in North Eastern India by the tribes, but now its a major conservation story and the same tribes now act as guides for bird lovers and watchers. The annual Amur Falcon festival happens every year around end Oct and one can watch 1000's of these birds - I hope to make it in 2023.

The story is worth reading for those interested!

"The Red-Tailed Hawk writes songs across the sky"-Kate Wolf

Red-Tailed Hawks are one of the most common hawks in the US. They are a very common sight in urban and rural areas alike. Once hated by farmers as the "chicken hawk", they were hunted and poisoned to near extermination. They have made a strong comeback, and their beautiful ,soaring flight is an inspiration to artists, poets, and bird lovers.

People have trained falcons for hunting for over a thousand years, and the Peregrine Falcon was always one of the most prized birds. Efforts to breed the Peregrine in captivity and reestablish populations depleted during the DDT years were greatly assisted by the existence of methods of handling captive falcons developed by falconers.

The Peregrine Falcon is a very fast flier, averaging 40-55 km/h (25-34 mph) in traveling flight, and reaching speeds up to 112 km/h (69 mph) in direct pursuit of prey. During its spectacular hunting stoop from heights of over 1 km (0.62 mi), the peregrine may reach speeds of 320 km/h (200 mph) as it drops toward its prey.

Visited a raptor presentation today. Birds who survived accidents and mishaps are taken care of by this group of dedicated bird lovers. If after healing, those that can are released back to the wild. But in some cases, the damage is too great and they will not be released, but rather kept and taken care of for the rest of their lives, this falcon was one of those. This one was perched on a handlers arm flapping it's wings. It was nice of her (the falcon) to give me a good chance for a shot.

Ardea Herodias, a large Heron 42 to 52 inches tall. A beautiful bird.

This one is in the swamps at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lake land Florida.

Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus, Circle B is closed as of today. A very sad day for us photographers and bird lovers who take our daily walks in that great place.

So My husband and I will make our way back up north, no need to stay here if we can't visit and walk at Circle B.

Lifting into the air and displaying those beautiful feathers that Mallards are known for! The warm afternoon sun highlighted its colors and patterns.

You can see in the background the snow-covered ground where the mallards often gather and rest.

Many bird lovers faithfully come throughout the day with corn feed and other food to help sustain them through the cold months as they overwinter here in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Agateador europeo , Cethia brachydactyla

Pulled into my driveway yesterday and here sits a drake. They love to come and eat the dropped bird seed in the winter months. Soon he'll be bringing his Mrs.

NATIONAL BIRD DAY

Nature lovers, bird lovers, and bird watchers across the country annually recognize National Bird Day on January 5th. It’s also one of several designated holidays celebrating birds.

Born Free USA emphasizes the importance of National Bird Day and lists it as a day to shine a spotlight on issues critical to the protection and survival of birds, both captive and wild.

According to Born Free USA, nearly 12 percent of the world’s almost 10,000 bird species are in danger of extinction.
