I can always find peace when I'm with birds. Here's sharing peace to all of you, my friends, and bird lovers. Taken at the crane pool at Bosque Del Apache NWR, New Mexico, amongst the mist and sun rising...

This little acrobat will fly off the branch and in short loops will catch the fly, Sometimes I just watch them like bird lovers do with Binoculars.

Please check this one from last year.

This protected area is a birds' paradise and a paradise for bird lovers / spotters. Personally I am more into landscapes, so I shot a whole new series of this area this Saturday in the late afternoon until sundown. More pieces will be uploaded soon.

Technique: DRI (Dynamic Range Increase) with 3 tonemapped HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.

This is one of the longest migrating raptors in the planet. The annual migration covers around 22,000 Km - 30,000 km / 14-18,000 miles starting from Siberia / Northern Mongolia to India and onward to South Africa. From the coasts of India, they fly over the sea to Africa covering around 3-4000 kms nonstop without touching the ground for 5-6 days.

The birds were - for the past few years - making a stopover briefly at a hill station near Mumbai for a couple of weeks and 100's of bird lovers like me make a visit to the place to watch them and get some pictures.

The falcons seem to prefer these wild lavender fields where they hunt for insects and caterpillars. They spend sometime in them walking around and looking for insects. Such fields are spread over the lakebed and the birds keep flying between them.

Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

Red-taileI was sitting in my mobile blind—aka my car—doing what bird lovers do best: scanning the landscape with binoculars and pretending we’re invisible.

Out on a distant post sat a Red-tailed Hawk.

Behind him, rugged rocky mountains.

In front, a golden field.

Classic raptor setting. Like a movie still—except the star hadn’t done anything yet.

So I watched. And waited. Because that’s what birders do. We wait.

Eventually, he took off. And not away—toward me.

Closer.

Still closer.

Closer than I expected or deserved.

My camera was in the passenger seat, already on (another thing bird lovers do). I lifted it and snapped just as he filled the frame, so much so that I clipped his wings.

And you know what? I don’t care.

Because what I got—his piercing eyes, those sharp talons, and that tail flared in perfect light—might be the best Red-tail photo I’ll ever take. Everything about it sings.d Hawk-5191

There. A bird for bird lovers ;-)

The last picture of 2022 - finally, a good shot of "THE" Amur Falcon - this has been a dream for years now.

The birds were hunted in very large numbers in North Eastern India by the tribes, but now its a major conservation story and the same tribes now act as guides for bird lovers and watchers. The annual Amur Falcon festival happens every year around end Oct and one can watch 1000's of these birds - I hope to make it in 2023.

The story is worth reading for those interested!

"The Red-Tailed Hawk writes songs across the sky"-Kate Wolf

Red-Tailed Hawks are one of the most common hawks in the US. They are a very common sight in urban and rural areas alike. Once hated by farmers as the "chicken hawk", they were hunted and poisoned to near extermination. They have made a strong comeback, and their beautiful ,soaring flight is an inspiration to artists, poets, and bird lovers.

(Archive photo) Something for bird lovers ;)

Thank you very much for your faves and comments!

Pulled into my driveway yesterday and here sits a drake. They love to come and eat the dropped bird seed in the winter months. Soon he'll be bringing his Mrs.

NATIONAL BIRD DAY

Nature lovers, bird lovers, and bird watchers across the country annually recognize National Bird Day on January 5th. It’s also one of several designated holidays celebrating birds.

Born Free USA emphasizes the importance of National Bird Day and lists it as a day to shine a spotlight on issues critical to the protection and survival of birds, both captive and wild.

According to Born Free USA, nearly 12 percent of the world’s almost 10,000 bird species are in danger of extinction.
