BILLY DUFFY: Influential Mancunian rock guitarist of ‘The Cult’ was born in Hulme in 1961. Growing up in Wythenshawe in the 1970s, Billy became a leading figure in the early Manchester music scene, notably inspiring and mentoring his pal Johnny Marr's guitar playing and encouraging Morrissey to make his singing debut with Duffy in 'The Nosebleeds' in the late 70s. Billy Duffy and The Cult, went on to be one of the biggest hard rock acts of the 80s and early 90s, their 'Electric' and ‘Sonic Temple’ albums went platinum in the US. Billy now lives in Los Angeles, but returns to Manchester as often possible to visit family and friends and watch his beloved Man City.
GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.
The project will be published and exhibited in a major city centre exhibition in 2021/22.

I ended Day 8 of SXSW 2016 (Friday, March 18) at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre (310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd.). (Even though my SXSW Gold badge didn't include access to evening Music showcases, the event organizers announced free admission for SXSW Guest Pass holders before 10 p.m.) I arrived early, nabbed a front-row mezzanine seat, and settled in for a great show featuring Fantastic Negrito, Blue October, and The Cult.
