It absolutely chucked it down last night and it's still raining, wellies for the rest of the weekend methinks! This is the John Peel stage looking all abstract at Glastonbury Festival.
A week earlier the whole travelling show had set themselves up on the banks of the Tamar at Royal Park. After cancelling shows because of the flood risk, they were able to resume this week once things began to return to normal.

There aren’t many acts that can pull off playing a concert with just vocal harmonies and no musical instruments for over an hour to thousands of people. There aren’t many that can successfully spread the joys of culture, love and peace. However, Ladysmith Black Mambazo bring all of that to their audiences and more, so much more!
A male South African Vocalist Harmony group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have been a group since 1960 when they were founded by Joseph Shabalala. The group came to be known worldwide when they worked alongside Paul Simon for his album Graceland in 1986. Since then, the group have gone on to win multiple awards, including five Grammy Awards.
Having been around since the 60’s, the members have changed over the years. The current group reside in Durban and are Joseph Shabalala’s sons Thamsanqa, Msizi, Thulani, and Sibongiseni; cousins Albert and Abednego Mazibuko; and close friends Russel Mthembu and Ngane Dlamini.
:D

The American Circus has been to Peterborough this week. Never went to see it but did take a snap or two from the outside.
UPDATE: Mystery solved after all those years, indirectly through the wonderful Jaap Best collection at Teylers Museum, Haarlem the Netherlands, also see: www.circusmuseum.nl

That the tiger's name was Emir comes from the writeup on a documentary on Legendary Women at Circus Krone from the Bayerische Feuilleton on Bayern 2, where she and the tiger's name are just mentioned in passing but nothing else.

BUT then
Finally the answer, through the Friedlander poster number, was found in: Gobbers , Emil
Artisten - Zirkus und Varietè in alter und neuer Zeit 1.-5. Tausend
Düsseldorf - Droste Verlag 1949 which mentions Cilly in the discription of the poster:
"Cilly Hetterich aus Dinslaken bewarb sich beim Circus Krone für den Job
als Tigerbraut. Ihre ganze Erfahrung bis dahin - der Umgang mit Hühner und Katzen" translated:
"Miss Hetterich from Dinslaken applied herself at Krone for the job of 'the Tigerbride' . Her whole animal experience untill then limited itself to farmyard chickens and cats"
Looking in the 1915 German Lutheran registries in Dinslaken, a village just north of Duisburg I have found an entry for Friedrich Hetterich, born 1882, with a 'kleintierhaltung' a smallholding, a daughter Christa born 1909. If Miss Cilly is indeed Christa Hetterich, she would have been approx 25 when this picture was taken. The 1939 Berlin phone directory gives a Christa Hetterich, with the occupation 'woolshop'. It seems a bit hard to take in that someone would start a knitting shop after having carried a tiger about for seven years, but maybe she wanted some peace and quiet?
Miss Cilly was billed from 1931 to 1938 as 'Cilly, die Tigerbraut, the Sensation Die Sensation von Berlin' (Cilly, the Tiger Bride, Sensation of Berlin) at circus Krone, so she performed this trick for at least 7 years.
She is, despite an almost uncanny and possibly not altogether coincidental likeness, NOT to be confused with equestrian circus star, singing ringmistress and film actress Cilly Feindt from rival circus Busch.
It remains to be found who the actual animal trainer of 'Miss Cilly's' tigers was, as this was obviously a reprise (see probable explanation of the number in comments below).
Victoria Park in east London was created in 1845 and became an essential amenity for local people, many of whom lived in poor housing in the late 19th century.
Now like many London parks it is regularly used as the site for music festivals in the summer. The local council closes off a large area of the park with a tall fence, with access inside only available to ticket-buying festival goers.
Everyone else, like me, has to remain Outside the Festival. This is a collection of images of what we get to see of the event.
Équilibre pur,
Silence sous le chapiteau,
L'air retient son souffle.
Perfect balance held,
Silence under the big top,
Even air stands still.

I attended a delightful Cirque du Soleil show last night as a guest of my daughter and her 3 children. One of three candid photos taken outside the big top!

An award winning Cirque du Soleil, "Circus of the Sun”, a Canadian entertainment company and the largest contemporary circus producer in the world. It was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec on 16 June 1984 by former street performers Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix. No lions or elephants here, just colourful, fanciful costumes, dramatic lighting, intense sounds, fabulous background music, and incredible human talent from the best circus acts around the world!"

Well, here is the last of my tent series. I hope you have liked the differences in each.
Again, my thanks to Dawn for your initial inspiration. I have to say, I thought these were going to go a whole other direction before I started. I'm happy with how things turned out.
