This is the most interesting animal I photographed. He's a dominant male lion. He is part of a coalition of six males that pretty much rule the Kruger park. It's very unusal for so many males to band together. The coalition, as its called, is slaughtering many of the other males in the park.

African Cape Buffalo (male). The African Cape Buffalo is considered the most dangerous animal in Africa, and is often referred to as "the Black Death." Cape Buffalo are one of "The Big Five," the five animals considered the most dangerous and difficult to hunt. The others are the elephant, rhino, lion and leopard.
So sad to see such a wonderful creature stripped of its natural beauty, but better to lose part of a horn than its whole life...
A male leopard rests in the Serengeti grasses just before sundown. He bears the scars of battles won and lost. At first, he seems to be simply resting and tending to his hygiene. On closer inspections we see him cleaning a recent wound. It's not a fatal wound. Probably no more than a scratch for him, likely caused by the claws or teeth of a rival male or perhaps the antlers of today's top menu choice. It's not his first injury and it won't be his last. The big cats of the Serengeti are no strangers to injury. They are amazingly capable of tending to their own wounds because even a minor wound, if not tended to appropriately, could become life threatening. #ILoveWildlife #ILoveNature #ILoveCats #WildlifePhotography in #Tanzania #Nature on the #Serengeti #Animals of #Africa #cats #BigCats #BigFive #Leopards
This is a single Rhino, an old guy, but don't mess with him - bigger than a Nissan Micra or maybe a Polo but with a massive sharp horn!
These guys are pretty blind and rely on their trumpet like ears, which act independently, so they can listen in more than one direction.
The overcast day provided some nice contrasty shots - I did consider B&W but prefered the texture and skin colour in this one.
That's pretty much it for the animal shots, I have one or two other Lion ones to show but they need some 'work'!
Then we can get off the coast down south on our way to Cape Town.
During our first white rhino sighting in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, we encountered three rhino which had just emerged from a mud bath, and were heading down to the dry riverbed.
Anticipating their direction, we followed them and got ahead so that we could see them cross.

African Lion (male). We encountered this young male lion just after he had been in a battle with another lion. There is still blood on his muzzle and chin, and his right ear has been mauled. Our guide Kenny said that he had probably been in a fight over females and that since he was alone, he had lost the fight.
