Altstadt, the Old Town, is lined with 6 km of arcades – the longest covered shopping promenade in Europe. The arcade arose following the devastating 1405 fire, and new structures were mostly built out of sandstone instead of wood. As the city expanded, arcades were added throughout the 15th century. This is through the window of a marionette shop.

The Bern Minster is a Swiss Reformed cathedral in the old city of Bern, Switzerland. Built in the Gothic style its construction started in 1421 however its tower, with a height of 100.6 metres, was only completed in 1893. It is the tallest cathedral in Switzerland.
Bern is the capital of Switzerland and is referred to as the federal city by the Swiss. The population of Bern is just over 138,000 making it the fourth most populous city in Switzerland. The official language of Bern is German but the most spoken language is the Alemmanic Swiss German dialect called Bernese German. The historic Old Town of Bern became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and Bern is ranked in the top 10 cities in the world for quality of life. Bern was founded in 1191 by Berthold V, Duke of Zahringen.
