St. George's, Bermuda

St. George's (formally, the Town of St. George, or St. George's Town), located on the island and within the parish of the same names, settled in 1612, was the first permanent English settlement on the islands of Bermuda. It is often described as the third successful English settlement in the Americas, after St. John's, Newfoundland, and Jamestown, Virginia and the oldest continuously-inhabited English town in the New World, since the other two settlements were seasonal for a number of years. In 2000, the town, together with numerous surrounding fortifications, including the Castle Islands Fortifications, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, formally known as the Historic Town of St George and Related Fortifications.

Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. Bermuda is self-governing, with its own constitution and its own government, which enacts local laws, while the United Kingdom retains responsibility for defence and foreign relations. Bermuda's two largest economic sectors are offshore insurance and reinsurance, and tourism. Bermuda had one of the world's highest GDP per capita for most of the 20th century. The island has a subtropical climate and lies in the hurricane belt and prone to related severe weather; however, it is somewhat protected by a coral reef that surrounds the island and its position at the north of the belt, which limits the direction and severity of approaching storms.

The beauty of Cuartel de BallajĆ” was not an immediate from the streets of Viejo San Juan - we found it by chance by peering into the courtyard from off the street. It was once a barracks for the troops of the neighboring El Morro. As our luck would continue, it contained a gelato shop, which was completely fortuitous as it was midday and we were quite warm.

A creation made for sim -Caracas-

A roleplay spot on SL based on the Bermuda Triangle story , castaway and survival on the island Caracas where modern folks get the chance to meet mystery , ghosts , mers ..just to get your mind go wild while having hungry sharks ready to nom nom when you decide to go for a swim. ( did add some huge shark teeth there but not sure if it'd visible enough..kind of liked it a bit vague:) )

I just LOVE mystery and had to drag a triangle in it. Since it's the first attempt would it be great to hear what you think of the presentation. ^^

move it!

Tobacco Bay, Bermuda

Tobacco Bay is located in the far north of Bermuda. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean coast, close to the town of St. George's and to the historic Fort St. Catherine. One of Bermuda's national parks, it is a popular public beach. The bay has an interesting history and was intimately connected with Bermuda's "Gunpowder Plot". On August 14, 1775, a group of Bermudians sympathetic to the independentist cause of the American Continental Congress stole gunpowder from the British Magazine in St. George's, rolled it across the island to Tobacco Bay and shipped it to America.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or El Morro, is a 16th-century Spanish citadel in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, designed to protect the harbor and control the Caribbean entrance. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, this six-level fortress features 140-foot-high walls, historic cannons, and stunning ocean views.

Visiting the quarters solved not only getting out of the hot sun, but also provided some beautiful views of El Morro's interior. It took a bit, but after a minute or two, I was able to finally time things with no one else in the frame. Enjoy!

What is it?

I found a strange triangular plastic object of unknown purpose.

It's small (approx. 1½" wide & ¼" thick), transparent black with two oil filled chambers and is stamped with the word sourin.

I learned what it is — see first comment below.

The Santurce neighborhood in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the premier Caribbean art district, renowned for its massive, vibrant street art murals, particularly concentrated around Calle Cerra. We had a blast wandering and finding hidden gems such as the case between buildings with this staircase. Enjoy!

These sentry towers are scattered throughout key positions all throughout Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or just El Morro, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From time-to-time, we'd find one undergoing a facelift - but these two will need to go on waiting their turn. Enjoy!
