With their final consist build, the A&O departs south through Berkley Run Junction. Here, the CSX Mountain Subdivision ends and the train will continue its journey over the Cowen Subdivision, a CSX line on long-term lease to the A&O.
This island provides a central visual highlight in the 68 acre lagoon of Aquatic Park, in Berkeley California. Its occupants are numerous egrets, cormorants, gulls, and other birds attracted to these waters.
The red building is labeled "Water Ski Club" on the Flickr Map, and apparently is used to host water skiing from May through September. Happily, water skiing appears to be off-limits during bird migration season.

“It is clear that the books owned the shop rather than the other way about. Everywhere they had run wild and taken possession of their habitat, breeding and multiplying, and clearly lacking any strong hand to keep them down.”

My son shares my love of books, so when we were walking in downtown Berkeley, the first place we stopped at, after brunch, was the bookstore :))
I also learned that Berkeley has no chain stores at all
Not even a Mickey D's!
He has been there for 4 years and its a fact I did not know :))
I was utterly impressed!!
Only mom&pop stores, all so quaint and beautiful
One reason why he does not eat fast food when home ;)
This bookstore was full of mostly used books
We spent an hour there, and I could have spent an entire day without knowing where the time went.
Bought a book he wanted me to read
The feel of a used book is unlike another
There is so much love within the pages
I much prefer pages to the Nook I own, and that I've probably used to read only one book :/
I like the touch and feel of paper, as my eyes skim the words
It is such beautiful pleasure :))
LOL...
Now that's rambling for ya :))))
Have a beautiful day, my dear friends
Your support means the world to me
Thank you for always making the time for my images

An allée of London Plane trees, just like Paris!
One of the formal entries to the University of California at Berkeley campus. (and part of my normal morning walking trail)
I read recently that many of the formal parks in Paris favor London Plane trees in their allées.

On November 10, 1905, the property was acquired by the Claremont Hotel Company for approximately $37,500.
Construction of the hotel began soon after purchase, but halted as a result of supply and financial difficulties caused by the 1906 earthquake. Construction resumed for a time in 1910, but further difficulties impeded progress.
Erik Lindblom invested a substantial amount of money to complete the hotel in 1914 and it opened in 1915 as the Claremont Hotel, in time to accommodate travelers to the Panama–Pacific International Exposition across the Bay in San Francisco.
