En el municipio de Lagos, en Portugal, concretamente en uno de sus núcleos de población, Benagil, se pueden observar a lo largo de su costa atlantica numerosos acantilados y grutas marinas.
Las numerosas playas y calas se abren camino entre impresionantes acantilados, formando un espectacular paisaje repleto de monumentos naturales, e uncluso en el mar, pequeños islotes con distintas figuras, como la de la imagen, que la llaman "El Mono" o "King Kong"

On the Algarve Coast the erosion of the sandstone has created numerous caves, this one is so large that it has its own beach with a huge vent hole in the roof. The roof hole is caused by acid rain penetrating fault lines in the sandstone from above.

En el municipio de Lagos, en Portugal, concretamente en uno de sus núcleos de población, Benagil, se pueden observar a lo largo de su costa atlantica numerosos acantilados y grutas marinas.
Las numerosas playas y calas se abren camino entre impresionantes acantilados, formando un espectacular paisaje repleto de monumentos naturales.
En Portugal, en el municipio de Lagos, en la costa Atlatinca, se encuentra la pedania de Benagil, en donde se encuentran sus famosos acantilidos y cuevas o grutas maritimas.
Una de esas cuevas, la mas importante, es la denominada Cueva de Benagil o Algar de Benagil, que cuenta con una pequeña playa en su interior que ha sido considerada como una de las cuevas más bonitas del mundo; cueva que se ha creado de manera natural debido a la erosión del mar al chocar contra los acantilados.
El acceso a ella se tiene que hacer en barco pequeño, canoa, o por cualquier otro medio de pequeñas dimensiones, asi como para los mas atrevidos, a nado.

Only seen from the path, the beautiful Benagil Cave is a phenomenon resulting from years of endless coastal erosion.
Though you can’t enter the sea cave, you can appreciate its beauty from a safe distance above.
The Benagil Cliff Walk is an eastern section of the longer Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, otherwise known as “Sete Vales Suspenso” in Portuguese and is one of the Algarve's most notable coastal landmarks.
In less than one hour, you’ll march above a hollow landscape carved by fresh water and saltwater forces, with some paths zigzagging down to the beautiful beaches. Google

Benagil sea cave, Algarve Portugal, unfortunately I was there in the afternoon, morning light is better in winter.
Is there something wrong with flickr view counter? Yesterday I had 1000+ views in 24 hours without explore, today less than 75, maybe the last upload really sucked, but the average had been 300-500 views for many years, just wondering.

Benagil’s beautiful sea cave is listed in the world’s “Top 10 Coolest Caves” published this week by American online newspaper The Huffington Post.
Describing the natural rock formation, the website wrote: “You've probably seen pictures of Benagil’s sea cave before. To get to the iconic cave in the Algarve, you'll have to charter a local fishing boat, but we think the trip is well worth it.”
Benagil’s cave is actually one of many caves along Lagoa’s coastline but certainly the most stunning attracting hundreds of visitors each summer.
Benagil caves were also on a list of the “50 Most Breathtaking Places to Visit Before You Die” by Singaporean website The Smart Local in February.
A number of boat trips to visit the caves are offered by local companies based at Benagil beach.
The American website has already praised Ponta da Piedade in Lagos describing it as “possibly the most beautiful beach on Earth” and Lisbon as one of the “nine best European cities to visit with friends”.

The huge Algar de Benagil cave features a natural skylight and a small stretch of sand that, as of 2024, can only be entered via boat or kayak tours. Google
Out of all sea caves that dot the Algarve coastline between Lagos and Albufeira, the Benagil Cave is the only one that has been eroded both from the side and from the top. Cuando tomé esta foto acababa de comprar este equipo, una D750 y el 20mm 1.8, el barquito que nois transportaba dijo algo así como.....el que quiera ir a la cueva que salte.......subí los brazos todo lo que pude......y salté, tb lo hizo mi hijo Adair y en un rinconcito de la cueva me llevé este recurdo que en estos días de confinamiento comparto con vosotros.

Benagil é uma pequena localidade situada no concelho de Lagoa, no Algarve com uma das praias que é considerada por muitos como das mais bonitas da região. Na Praia de Benagil é possivel desfrutar do sol e da água transparente, comer um gelado ou dar umas braçadas, sempre num ambiente familiar. É vizinha da famosa Praia da Marinha.
We had a little two hour boat trip and went by some of the beautiful spots along the Algarve south coast.
The sea is a vibrant blue/ greenish and the rock formations are yellow/orange and together with the blue skies and the sunrise give a very punchy constrasty image.
