A walk in the Victoria Esplanade Gardens gave me the opportunity to try my hand at vintage lens photography out in the field.

A little more difficult than in a more controlled environment such as an indoor still life! I came away with a few interesting shots for a dull winter day and certainly enjoyed the experience of enjoying life in the slow lane! Hats off to the photographers of yesteryear who had manual everything cameras and could nail fabulous focus and exposures!

This image was taken as part of a time lapse at a place i was staying near Dalvik in North of Iceland. Light was still creeping over the horizon until way past midnight due to being so far north. I set my tripod out overlooking a small stream which ran into Eyjafjörður which is the longest fjord in Iceland and very well known as a top location for whale watching, where many orcas, humpbacks and minke tend to congregate. I managed to capture around 5 hours of photos. My Nikon D750 was set on interval timer taking a 5 second exposure every 7 seconds at 15mm and f2.8 on my Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Lens. ISO was at a reasonable 2000.

Finding an original composition at Monsal Weir can be quite a challenge. This was a shoot with a difference. I was actually part of a very large group (54) of people who were celebrating a relative's wedding with a walk and picnic at Monsal Dale. I slipped off to shoot the weir while everyone else was having their picnics and exchanging pleasantries, etc. I used my lightweight Befree Manfrotto to steady my camera with 75-300 lens attached. I think the little tripod did a great job and this was definitely a situation where it was preferable to use a smaller camera as opposed to larger pro gear.

I was so lucky to see this dolphin playing in the waves during my visit in byron bay, about 15 humpback whales were swimming in this area the same time, but this dolphin made my day.
