So work the honey-bees,
Creatures that by a rule in nature teach
The act of order to a peopled kingdom.
They have a king and officers of sorts,
Where some, like magistrates, correct at home,
Others, like merchants, venture trade abroad,
Others, like soldiers, armed in their stings,
Make boot upon the summer's velvet buds,
Which pillage they with merry march bring home.
-WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

A deep-held hope that the world's honey bees will survive till the next millennium...my own
This little bee was looking a little exhausted on top of a fence post. I wished I'd had some sugar water with me, but hopefully the flowers nearby were enough. 💛
I celebrated my birthday on a mountain top with the snow ghosts where the only tree ornaments were the hardy Canada grey jays and the ravens. If I had my way I'd still be up there, but I had to beeline it home to put on a feast for Christmas. It was just what I needed... I feel rejuvenated.
Merry Christmas!
Train A22 beelines it home from Wetaskiwin as they pass the ABS searchlights into Ponoka. With CTC being installed up to Wolf Creek on the Leduc, the imminent installation of the rest of the sub is fast approaching. Another interesting observation is the utilization of the old overhead code line to power the signals, probably one of the few places in North America to do this.

It's almost Springtime in NSW, still quite chilly & not many bees around yet, so I was lucky to get this shot of this bee on a mission :))

Hi there,
Last summer, one of my goals was to try and capture a bee in-flight with my macro lens. This is one of my bizillion attempts.
Thank you for taking the time to look and for leaving me a comment! Have an amazing day!

A "beeline" means the most direct, quickest route between two points, often used in the phrase "make a beeline for," meaning to go straight and quickly to something or someone, driven by purpose or desire, like bees flying straight home. It implies speed and a lack of deviation, even if the actual path isn't perfectly straight due to obstacles.
Key Meanings
Direct Route: A straight line or path, like a bee returning to its hive.
Hasty Movement: Going quickly and purposefully towards a goal or person.
Examples in Use
"When the buffet opened, everyone made a beeline for the dessert table".
"After the meeting, she made a beeline for the exit".
Origin
The term comes from the observation that bees fly directly and without hesitation back to their hive after finding nectar, taking the shortest path home, even if they zig-zag around obstacles, notes Mental Floss.

I finally got serious about photographing bees in flight.
I took my Nikon D500 and 70-300mm + 36mm extension tube and mounted it on a tripod.
Positioned the lens on the center plane of the flower and waited for a bee to enter that space.
Camera Settings:
F:16, 1/4,000 second, ISO 1400 @135mm (with 36mm extension tube)
Settings were locked in, no anti-vibration with focus locked and above camera settings.
....what I would change next time is securing the flower so that the wind does not move the flower AND consider using a higher shutter speed - 5,000 to 8,000 in order to "see" the wings. Slight blur makes more sense to me.

I’m a storm chaser through and through…that’s just what I do. I have a hard time going anywhere and just waiting for something good to happen. I’ve wanted to do a few trips this year, one mainly to a spot on the north rim of the Grand Canyon, just to camp for a few days and get some epic shots.
But it’s not in me to do that. I love the chase. The unknown. What will I end up with tonight?
This photo is a prime example of that. It’s nothing earth-shattering, but what it shows you is that beauty can be found anywhere, even though you don’t expect it.
This was from July 6th of this year. I saw a big line of storms moving in off the White Mountains and thought I might get in front of them right when it got dark and could destroy some lightning shots over the hills. But as it neared me, the storms started dying, the lightning wasn’t coming my way.
As I sat there bumming, this glow slowly appeared in the sky…and I wasn’t expecting it. The clouds were so thick everywhere, I had no idea the sun could possibly make it all this way.
But then the clouds ignited and I couldn’t believe the color. It was intense.
Sunsets are weird in a way. It’s like you know a storm is great because there is wind and thunder and rain, and you can “feel” it. A sunset though…it’s like something so amazing and powerful, but it’s utterly silent. You look up and see an explosion of color, but there are no trumpets playing, no orchestra…just quiet.
Makes it all the better.
