The tabar, also known as tabarzin, derives its name from the Persian term "saddle axe" (تبر). It stands as a notable type of battle axe with origins spanning regions including the Ottoman Empire, Persia, India, and neighboring cultures. This weapon holds significant historical and cultural significance, having been utilized in warfare across various civilizations.

Characterized by its distinctive design, the tabar typically features a single-edged blade mounted on a long shaft, often adorned with ornate engravings or decorations. Its practical design made it a versatile weapon on the battlefield, capable of inflicting devastating blows with its heavy head while also serving utilitarian purposes such as chopping wood or clearing obstacles.

The term "tabar" itself has traveled through linguistic and cultural exchanges, originating from Iranian Scythian roots. Its adoption as a loanword extends beyond its region of origin, finding its way into many Slavic languages where it is commonly used to refer to axes in general.

Throughout history, the tabar has been wielded by warriors from diverse backgrounds, including cavalrymen, foot soldiers, and elite guards. Its presence in military conflicts and ceremonial contexts underscores its status as both a practical tool and a symbol of martial prowess.

Today, the legacy of the tabar endures in various forms, from historical artifacts displayed in museums to modern reproductions crafted by artisans. Its association with cultures across the Middle East and Central Asia serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of civilizations and the enduring influence of weaponry in shaping human history.

World of Warcraft battle axe realized as papercraft.

The current LEGO Ideas’ contest is called 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons! where they are asking members to design builds inspired by Dungeons & Dragons with between 100 and 3,000 pieces which could potentially be turned into a LEGO set. I thought I would give it a go!

In my build, which I have named Domain of the Dracolich, I wanted to create a recognisable scene from a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, an ambush about to take place between skeleton warriors and the ultimate undead foe, a dracolich. Will our valiant heroes survive?

My build includes 1,099 parts and is primarily a display piece with the idea being that the builder could put their own characters and party into the scene. The dracolich itself is fully articulated and posable.

The six minifigures include a mage in the middle of spellcasting, a dwarven warrior with a battleaxe, a half-elf ranger with her trusty crossbow and three attacking skeleton warriors kitted out with shields, swords and a mace.

While I was working in Alegbra, a doodle became this. Ta-da. Also, I'm working hard to finish the SHC contest entry. That's what you'll all see next!

For generations the powerful battleaxe has been tethered to its original owner, but tonight that will change. Thanks to a black mage's magic, the young lord will finally be able to wield the same power as his ancestor did.

Got a problem? My bronzed old lion-like great Grandfather could handle that for you in a jiffy! Great Grand-daddy had a way with words - and with battleaxes...

My third build for the ABS round 2.4, and my first try at a LEGO bust. Having to do a non-light tan face was definitely not the easiest thing, but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out in the end! Love that battleaxe, though... XD Oh, and in case you were wondering - as far as I know none of my Great Grandfathers were actually Vikings, XP

Thanks for viewing, C&C welcome!

No, they're not zombies, but prisoners from death row. Picking only those who still hold strong patriotic beliefs. If they must die, then make it on the battlefield...the others are just going to piss off first chance they get : D

Hot Wok – Custom Lego Corner Modular Building

Feeling hungry? On this little corner of Amsterdam you’ll find plenty of choice to keep your tummy happy! On the corner itself is Hot Wok. This restaurant serves up a variety of delicacies from Asia and the far east, with additional seating outside and upstairs. To the left is Wild West: an American themed steak restaurant. To the right is Kaas, selling a variety of traditional Dutch cheeses.

On the first floor, accessed from the rear of the building is just what every good city needs: a shop selling medieval weaponry! Visit The Old Battleaxe and live out your pillaging and plundering fantasies.

The upper two floors contain a 3-bedroom family apartment with a small balcony at the rear, spread across all three of the individual buildings that make up the architecture on this street corner.

The large sign on the roof of the building is the Coat of Arms of the city of Amsterdam which contains three Saint Andrew’s crosses.

(333/365) We bought this A3 size "Rules of my Kytchen" poster in the Hand-made Paper Mill at Wookey Hole caves in Somerset about 15 years ago & had it framed to hang on our kitchen wall. Some of the sayings & spellings are a bit too Americanized for my taste (no offence to my American Flickr friends). I remember our kids having great fun making their own paper from scratch, this website tells you all about the Victorian paper mill www.wookey.co.uk/hand-made-paper-mill/

"Sentinel" - Urban - Armed with a double-sided battleaxe, a wrist rocket, and chest-mounted machine guns. A unique feature to this unit is that it carries propaganda tablets to keep citizens in line. Some say they're simply Wendy's menus though.

On the build: These were fun to build overall and I'm pretty satisfied with them. I do wish I could've mounted weapon systems over the top but height restrictions said otherwise haha.

Harold Godwinson, the rightful Anglo-Saxon ruler who succeeded the throne of England from Edward the Confessor in January 1066, can’t wait to take on the invading and illegitimate William of Normandy in battle. He’s brimming with confidence, he’s just coming off a great victory at Stamford Bridge, and he’ll easily deal with this froggy Norman guy. Of course, he has no cavalry like William does…and his men are exhausted from forced marching…but hey, what could possibly go wrong?

2016 is the 950th anniversary of the history-changing Norman invasion of England, which permanently changed the society, laws, genetic make-up and even the very nature of Great Britain. Down through the centuries this historic shift in culture in turn eventually effected France, America, and countless other nations as well.

This year, HistoryLUG is commemorating this important event as most of us won’t be around for the Millennial commemoration....

We’ll have multiple builds culminating in a large collaborative layout in October for the Battle of Hastings, much like we did for the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt.

So I thought I’d break out my woefully-small collection of medieval-ish minifigs to see what I could come up with, and let’s just hope that the other HistoryLUG members have a larger collection than I do or this will be a very smallish build!

Much of what LEGO has created for the Castle Theme worked great for Agincourt (1415), but becomes an anachronism when used for the Norman Conquest 350-years earlier. Plate armor of any kind, great helms, close helmets, those wide-brimmed miner helms, silver crossbows, longbows and coat of arms-type of shields all had not been developed yet in 1066. So, out they go…which doesn’t leave a lot really.

Fortunately, just in time to make a lot of money off me, LEGO has conveniently issued CMF Series 15 with a knight in a hauberk, which is what they wore for armor. While his great helm, shield and that massive mace won’t work, at this point I’ll take all I can get….

An unrecognizable man disguised as a French warrior of Napoleon era, talks to a stranger woman in the street. A huge battle-axe rests on his shoulder. Maybe the soldier is asking a lady how to get to a library or to the nearest museum of fine arts?

Scream loudly and carry a huge battleaxe! I gave myself the challenge of staying "purist" for the figure builds, mostly because I own no third party stuffs.

Built for CCCXI - Fantasy Castle Figure category.
