My husband and I spent the last week and a half watching a pair of breeding Kingfishers bringing food in for their brood, I took a lot of photos so expect to see a number of kingfisher photos over the next few months, lol. The Sacred Kingfisher spends Summer in the southern part of Australia to breed and raise its young before returning to the Northern areas of Australia to escape our cool Winters.

Seppeltsfield is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in the Barossa Valley, established in 1851. The roads around the winery are tree lined.

A very long dry summer in Barossa Valley takes its toll on the greenery.
Barossa Valley is one of the best wine regions in the world for big bold reds, especially shiraz and depsite the arid conditions its apparently a very good year for the grapes (phew!)
We were up Mengler Hill for this shot on a very humid, hot and windy day. The lack of much colour in the region is reflected in the photo. And despite the storm clouds forming in the distance, little of it turned to rain.
Looking down onto the start of the famous Barossa Valley which follows the foothills off to the left.
Many quality wines are grown here with the grapes about 4-6 weeks from harvesting.
Look for these wines from Australia in the shops as they are filled with good old clean South Australian sunshine.

The Barossa Valley, South Australia, was settled by German Lutheran Immigrants in the 1850's. They quickly identified that the soils and climate were ideal for grape growing and the area has since become renown as one of Australia's premier wine regions. While many of the traditional wineries remain, many boutique wineries have started up and there are now over 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors across the region. This has bought associated growth in accommodation, cafes and other tourist attraction, including old churches and original restored German cottages.
My intention was to post some of the beautiful landscape, but as we visited on a very wet, cold and windy day it was cellar doors and a cafe instead.
