I'm all alone in the dark now baby ...I'm all alone in the dark now baby ...I'm all alone on my knees at last...Alone in the dark ...'cause i want you with me ...And you're not here ...So I rub my nose in it babe ...I'm all alone in the dark now baby ...I'm all alone in the dark now baby ...I'm all alone and drawing whiskey...Alone in the dark ... around one day and you were gone ...Alone in the dark baby, I'm all alone... all alone, I'm all alone ...Since the night you left...

Lyrics: "Alone in the Dark" by John Hiatt

Durga puja, the festival of Bengal is one of the most important festivals of Bangalis.

Bengal specializes in preserving the age old tradition of making clay idols. Such unmatched skills come in the limelight during the festive occasion of Durga Puja. Months before the Puja clay artisans start to breathe in life in the images of Durga. Bamboo sticks cut in various shapes and sizes are required to make the basic structure of the idols of Goddess Durga and the platform on which the colossal statue stands. Durga's figure is then imparted shape with straw tied with jute strings. Creating fascinating figurines of Hindu Gods and Goddesses has been an age old tradition for the Pals (the clay artisans).

Children playing in mustered field in Bangladesh.

As winter deepens in this country that lies athwart the Tropic of Cancer, the landscape is coloured, across the country, with vast swathes of fields of Mustard, lending an impressive, almost magical quality to the almost endless views across the deltaic plains.

For the last three days through out the world Bangali's were celebrating Durga Puja. Today is Bijaya Dashami - the day when Devi Dashobhuja ( Godess who has 10 hands) goes back to her home. Today is the day when we ask for blessings from her and from our elders. Many a child ( some in age others in heart) will secretly cry today. Today with heavy heart we say “Devi will come again Next Year”.

THE INDIAN Coffee House, on Bankim Chatterjee Street, is better known as the Coffee House of Calcutta. The Indian Coffee Workers’ Cooperative Society Limited has been running the establishment since 1958.

The history of this prestigious building dates back to 1876 when the Albert Hall was founded. Later the coffee board, in order to wean away the tea drinkers and popularise this drink, started the Coffee House in 1942. It gradually became a meeting place of people from the world of arts and culture. The Coffee House of Calcutta has had the honour of seeing the emergence of literary figures who are household names today. It used to be the meeting place for those who tried their hands at penning prose or poetry. The promising ones got willing listeners who listened in rapt attention and commented – all over a cup of coffee. Then there were the little magazine crowd who took to printing their own works because no one else wanted to give them the breaks. These young hopefuls harboured thoughts of one day rising up to the level of the established ones. And, one just cannot ignore the ones who sought each other’s company for brief moments in between regular classes – to share their innermost feelings and profess love. The Coffee House was the gateway to freedom; it was a way of life for the collegians.

The wonderful song by Manna Dey (‘Coffee houser shei addata nei, aaj aar nei…’) really takes one back in time to those carefree days when dreams were woven and broken. The building of the Indian Coffee House in Kolkata is a tribute to the leading lights of Bengali literature, cinema, arts and politics who spent hours discussing and debating on matters that helped society.

Sometimes, it's ok to let time fly by.

When we're too tired of the rush,

Against the river of time....

We can just stop, wait for a moment.

We can watch the perpetual river going on and on...

Who could be happier than us?

From dawn to dusk.....

We play...

We laugh....

We roam in joy...

A moment of eternal peace and happiness. Taken from Narayangonj, Bangladesh.

Located on the side of the street.

Chittagong, Bangladesh.

It was the end of a day.

The lights are gone.....and the shadow lurked in.

Birds were biding farewell to each other.

Soon, they will return home..

And will wait for the reincarnation of the sun.

The crows were anxiously waiting for the night to come, while the shadow of a long advancing night darkened the atmosphere. Captured within the Curjon Hall Area, Dhaka University Campus. A color photograph.

He sells jhaal moori, a popular Bengali street snack, at the beach. He was more than happy to have his portrait taken as I just made a purchase from him. I personally prefer the snack without the moori (puffed rice), but it doesn't taste the same as it used to anymore. at least not to me. They also serve it on a plastic plate now with a spoon, which is not as fun to eat from as from the traditional newspaper cones.
