A pair of Baldwin VO-1000M's haul empty boxcars back to Naval Weapons Station Earle after transloading to a ship in the Sandy Hook Bay. Having hauled tonnage since the days of World War II, these ancient locomotives continue to demonstrate their worthiness hauling ammunition for the U.S. Navy. Public access to this rail line is limited, evident by the sign to the left, and trains are often accompanied by U.S. Navy Security escorts who can be hostile towards photographers.
An assortment of Baldwin road switchers power a train on the Eagle Mountain Railroad, west of Desert Center CA in the summer of 1967. The railroad was run by Kaiser Steel and ran from their loadout at Eagle Mountain to an interchange with the SP's Sunset Line to the south. After the Baldwins went away, red U30Cs powered the trains until the late 1980s when the entire operation closed. No photographer listed, JL Sessa collection.

SOO 360 a Baldwin DRS4-4-1500 rests at Superior on July 29, 1967.The 360 is listed as retired in November 1967 and traded in on the U30C order on SOO rosters. The stout Baldwin is finishing up a 20 year career and the U30C that it will be traded in on will not come close to equaling its longevity. I picked this one up years ago in one of the Richard Wallin auctions. No one listed on the slide mount to credit. Chuck Schwesinger collection.

E&LS had quite a bunch of operational Baldwins for a long time, now most gather rust in Wells and will most likely never run again. But back in 1987 I found ex C&H 202 working Marinette.
