Dommage!

This 3x1 panorama shows the town of Nice in the south of France, as viewed from the Parc de la Colline du Château de Nice. The name "Château de Nice" refers to a series of fortifications that stood on a hill overlooking the Baie des Anges from the 11th to the 18th century. The last of these fortifications were dismantled on the orders of Louis XIV following the siege of Nice in 1705. The area was eventually transformed into a public park and gardens, the parc de la Colline du Château, in the mid-19th century.

This photo of the reflection of a crescent moon on the sea was taken looking west over La Baie des Anges towards Nice and the airport.

Un dimanche au bord de l’eau

Dans les rires et les sanglots

Je me sens un peu perdu aujourd’hui

Je me sens les cheveux gris

Went out to this nice view of Nice for the sun set, which did not turn out as nicely as I would have hoped.

But as I was discussing with Caesa Picsproduction that I met there, I continued shooting after sun set.

In the end I prefer this after sun set picture, and as a bonus I noticed only during post processing that the 1 day new moon was present on the horizon.

Have a look at Caesa Picsproduction version of this same spot!

This photo was taken at the summit of the Colline du Château de Nice, which offers an unrivaled view across the bay and the old town.

Looking stormy at sunset.

Antibes essentially takes its name from this view: in the 4th Century BCE, a Greek colony was founded here at the south-western end of the Baie des Anges, on the opposite side of the Var estuary from Nice, therefore being called 'Antipolis': 'Opposite-City'.

On the far shore, the sun appears to have already set on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, just reaching the Vieille Ville and Porte Lympia, 17 km away either side of the wooded Colline du Chateau (Castle Hill).

The larger wooded hill behind is Mont Leuze, distinctively capped by France Télécom's transmitter tower 21½ km away. The Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur is 20.7 km away at the summit of the smaller wooded hill to the left, Mont Gros.

At the far right of the image, the ground rises steeply to Tête de Chien, a 550 m headland 27 km away overlooking Monaco.

The highest point between there and the telecom tower is Mont Agel (1,148 m, 31 km away), with Nice Air Base monitoring/directing military air traffic from its summit.

Less obvious to its immediate right is Roc de l'Orméa (1,132 m), 40.6 km away on the France-Italy border.

The peak to the left of the telecom mast is Cime de Baudon (1,266 m), 34½ km from here.

The mountains to the left seem to be Le Farguet (1,186 m), 37.3 km away and Mont Méras (1,241 m) either side of the Col du Farguet; that pass is itself at 1,084 m.

This is a beautiful beach and all sorts of people - young and old - are enjoying their time here under the gorgeous sun. I was instantly attracted by this old couple sitting on the white bench and facing the wonderful Baie des Anges, Bay of Angels. They were simply relaxing and enjoying the sun and the breeze. I guess they were probably thinking the same thing: "I can stay here all day!"

I find the bright sunlight plus the blue versus white contrast adds a blissful touch of life to this portrait too:-)
