Day 1 @onlinecardclasses @laurafadora Ink Blending w/distress inks and starting from the center. This was tricky, but I will enjoy with more practice. #onlinecardclasses #backgroundcheck #distressinks Milled lavender, dried marigold & tumbled glass #creationsforkindness #occbackgroundcheck

traciepond: @michii00 yes, it is tricky. Like markers or watercolors, practice practice. I think it is just getting the feel for the tool and how the different inks will adhere to the cardstock/paper. Also pressure. I have a difficult time because I have such a tight grip. So this is kind of like therapy for me.
paper_pajamas: Very lovely π
littlesavedgirl: I'm starting out blending now with distress inks and it is tricky π
traciepond: Thank you for your kindness @paper_pajamas π
traciepond: @littlesavedgirl yes, it is tricky. I really enjoyed the technique using pigment inks.
jolie_samuel: Love the results!
inkapaper: This is lovely! I have been doing lots of blending past weeks and so happy to see so many crafters doing as well. Always end up with ink on all fingers. π
lisatilson: @traciepond yes it is definitely tricky but well done! Laura is a master at blending she makes it look very easy! I think it definitely makes a difference what paper you use. I am going to try it again with a smoother paper.
Cookeville, TN at the train Depot. I hear this sign still works and is turned on occasionally. I bet it looks great at night. The old manufacturing plant has turned into touristy, antique and specialty shops.

This Antebellum home dates back to 1853 and was the home of Martin Cheairs. During the Civil War, it was the headquarters of Confederate General Earl Van Dorn in April and May of 1963.
On May 7, 1864, local physician and politician Dr. George B. Peters visited Van Dorn here to discuss allegations that Van Dorn had an affair with his wife. Dr. Peters shot and killed Van Dorn in the back of the head with a pistol.
After the war, this became the Branham-Hughes Military Academy and today is part of Tennessee Childrens Home. The home is located on highway US 31 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. For More info:

In the early 1980's it looked like Hendersonville was going to become a prime country music tourist destination. Johnny Cash set up the House of Cash on a highway named after him. Conway Twitty built his mansion and tourist destination Twitty City. Across the street, several smaller venues opened up and collectively they became known as Music Village USA. After Twitty's death, his entire property went for sale and was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network which opened Trinity Music City. The smaller attractions weren't going to thrive on their own and were also purchased by Trinity.
One of these operations was this building which was a recording studio and museum opened by Marty Robbins. Robbins dies in 1982 which is right around the time it would have opened. Once owned by Trinity Music City, they have kept it as a recording studio.

I've begun volunteering as a mentor for a six-year-old in the Howard County school system. Had to fill out all kinds of paperwork, including info for a background check. Then, the school system decided to make fingerprinting mandatory, so off I went to get that done. Now the organization I volunteer with will be notified if I ever get arrested. Not that I plan on getting arrested, but who knows? Maybe I'll decide to become a protest warrior and join some sit-ins. (or, more likely, not.)
Being this careful about safety checks is a good thing even if it was a pain in the butt.
Here is the railroad station of the town I call home.
The city of Smyrna has its roots to when a station was built here in 1851 and the town sprung up around it. (The line that ran from Nashville to Chattanooga placed a depot every 8 or so miles along the route.) This brick depot was built in 1873.
The historic building had lied vacant for many years, but it is starting to see a little bit of activity. Most of the town festivals are held at the depot and along Front St. Within the last 5 years, the town has worked on revitalizing the area with landscaping and a roundabout at the intersection in front of the depot. The green flag in the picture is the city's logo.

Here is an example of an old Majestic Home that has been repurposed after a commercial development has sprawled up around it. Revolutionary War General Robert Irvin settled here in 1807. Work began on this house in 1838 by his son Robert Irvin Moore and their family lived in the house until 1944. During the Civil War, both sides used the Greek Revival home as a hospital.
Today, this area around Franklin Pike (US31) in Brentwood is home to many businesses. I didn't even realize until recently this old home was here among all the office complexes here. In 1985, the home was restored by Koger Properties and they use it for their offices. See the historical marker here:

The "predrill test scandal" is when DEP and the fracking industry find a way to dismiss baseline data. When the tests are dismissed it changes the water quality history of an area, saying a pre-existing condition, not fracking, caused the water contamination. This act removes the clean predrill test and absolves the company.
According to env. attorney Bob Ging, "Predrill tests are the most important [science] anyone can get." This is the science homeowners must use to protect themselves from water contamination...
Triple Divide exposed the Predrill Scandal, and can be downloaded to watch at vimeo.com/ondemand/tripledivide.

TRUSTED TRAVELERS: Programs Provide Benefits, but Enrollment Processes Could be Strengthened
Notes: The average annual vetting times are for initial applications in which the applicant did not provide information on a vehicle. We reviewed the average vetting times for applications in which the applicant provided information on a vehicle and found they were similar to those in this figure. Applications with information on a vehicle accounted for about 13.8 percent of initial applications from fiscal year 2009 through June 2013.
a) Fiscal year 2013 data are from October 2012 through June 2013.

TRUSTED TRAVELERS: Programs Provide Benefits, but Enrollment Processes Could be Strengthened
a) At 3 FAST crossings, trusted travelers waited longer on average than regular travelers.
b) One NEXUS crossing has only trusted traveler lanes, and is therefore not included in the figure.
c) One SENTRI crossing had only regular lanes in fiscal year 2013 and another had only trusted traveler lanes. These 2 crossings are not included in the figure.
This card was made for Background Check OCC. The background is from the Day 1 technique - ink smooshing.
