Le Trayas - 01.07.2019.
It was around a half hour after sunset, when I took the last picture of that day at Hindenburg dam. This evening was somewhat special, what I never experienced before and after. In the dusk it could be clearly seen, when the train left the island, but the hard working locomotives could be heared even before, when they still were on Sylt island, which is 9 km away.
The photo was taken with Nikkor AIs 35/2 in combination with Metabones Speedbooster.

This is obviously not the image, I originally wanted to take, since RE 11020 (Hamburg-Altona - Westerland) came to an unfavorable time. But nevertheless this image is still worth to be shown in my opinion.
We're still on duty at Western Ave tower, just a different day. We're going back out on the porch and point our camera in the opposite direction and what do we see? A Conrail SW9, the 9131, headed north on the Pennsy/CJ with a slightly unique train. Behind the EMD butt head is an odd assortment of slightly used passenger cars. I can make out a former GM&O coach and a full length dome, last used by AutoTrain, and there's a couple more that I can't make out. Behind the train you can see the Ryerson Steel plant. The train is seen here crossing the B&OCT.

A super Southern California scene was set along the Los Angeles Subdivision just west of CP Streeter, as the Palm and Citrus trees get blown around from a late spring Santa Ana Wind creating an almost fake looking sky (It's rarely or never this clear). All fitting for the Union Pacific's Extra-Autofest from Santa Teresa, New Mexico to Mira Loma, California running with seventy-five racks under the control of a pair of C45AHs. The train is ten miles from it's terminus in the Jurupa Valley, where the autos will be unloaded and distributed for the never ending hunger of the Southern California Car Market.

These engines have begun to replace the old Dash 8s that were assigned to the Auto Train terminals at Lorton, VA and Sanford, FL.
The current series is still characterized of my efforts to get familiar with the new camera. This includes the whole process from taking the picture to the processed result. Another aspect of the current series is the restriction to the area of Hamburg only, which is caused by the current pandemic.
Todays picture will break this series and should give a little bit more variety. Tomorrow the Hamburg series will be continued.
A trip to the DC area in the late 70's almost always included trying to catch the southbound Auto Train somewhere on the RF&P. Even then, DC area traffic could derail those plans but on this day we set up at the trestle over Neabsco Creek just north of Quantico Virginia. Auto Train was a popular private company that operated between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida over RF&P and SCL tracks between 1971 and 1981. Expansion, accidents, and costs eventually led to bankruptcy in 1981 and it ceased operation. Amtrak restarted a similar concept a couple of years later and continues to run that train. The original The original Auto Train had their own equipment including GE U36B's painted in an attractive white, red, and purple scheme.
