One more to finish up this small series of some skyscrapers in the US. This one is taken at Los Angeles Downtown. I still remember that it was on a sunday and the city was totally empty. Almost like a ghost town. On that day we first travelled to Downtown LA, then to Long Beach, New Port Beach and then enjoyed laying in the sun at Huntington Beach. It feels like it has been yesterday.

Have a great day, everybody!

One single long exposure. No photoedition : straight out of the camera except for contrast/crop.

Sometimes I like to try an auto-light. :)

This is one of my first shots that I took, when we arived at San Francisco. Maybe it is one of the best I have taken from the Golden Gate Bridge also.

We traveled north from Monterey, made some short stops along the coast and a longer one at the beach of Santa Cruz before at that day. It was still foggy and cold in Monterey when we left in the morning, than it got nice and warm during the day, especially in Santa Cruz and as closer we came to San Francisco, the foggier and colder it got. What a lot of people do not know is, that San Francisco is not very warm throughout the hole year. It is foggy, cloudy and chilly a lot of days in the year. Well, it gets warmer, when you are down in the city during the day, but as closer you get to the coast, the chillier it gets.

Well, we stayed in San Francisco for 4 nights before we headed east to Yosemite. We had not a single day on which we could see the Golden Gate Bridge without clouds surrounding it. So I had the idea to screw on a ND-Filter my camera and do some long exposures to capture the moving traffic on the freeway. I uploaded an almost similar shot before from that location with a longer exposure. But I found that shot in my archives now which I like more because of those to people on the left and the motion blur of the passing cars comes out a bit better. Back than I did not like the shot, probably because of those people. Now I think they add something special to this shot. I also did some other way of processing on this shot. I must admit that some of the images I processed on my laptop before look horrible on my new big screen. Most of them are way oversaturated.

So I am still going through my vacation shots. But I figured out that there are way to many to process in a short time. I probably will randomly upload some shots throughout the next days. There are also way to many images for a single album. I made one right after my vacation in last August with about 200 images. So there are "only" 3800 images left :) I also did one that only includes images from baseball games that we visited. Maybe I will create some smaller photobooks that cover some parts of that vacation like the baseball book.

Have a great start into the weekend, everybody! And many thanks for your support. I appreciate that very much.

I have some more stuff from my archives. This is actually from our honeymoon trip to the US Southwest back in 2012. I took that shot in San Francisco on our stay there. Sometimes it is good to look at the archives. There are still some good images that somekind get lost.

Have a great start into the week, folks.

During our stay in SF, this is the first and acutually the best shot of the Golden Gate Bridge I could get. The bridge was covered with clouds for the last four days.

I took this picture of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Northern point and used a ND3-filter for the long exposure.

Yet another shot of some San Francisco skyscrapers that I took on a bus tour through SF back in 2012. It's not perfectly straightened, but that was not really possible on the tourist bus. But the outcome is not that bad, I guess :-)

Have a great day, everybody!

With my last San Francisco upload I told you guys that the fog comes into the bay area very often. So this image shows very good how it coveres the night at the evening.

My wife has a pen pal from Oakland who took us out to visit Oakland that day and took us to a Giants game on our second day in San Francisco. When I was leaving my seat to grab some foot I discovered how the fog was coming in. During the day it was very warm in the city, but at the evening it got colder and colder every minute. I actually was not prepared for that. I sat there in the stadium with my short pants and only a hoodie and I was freezing that evening.

Well, the Giants were 2-0 ahead at the end of the eight inning and our friends and we were ready to leave due to the cold weather. We took the elevator down from the top level. When we left the stadium somebody screamed "damned it, 2-2". We could not believe that fact but than heared about it in the radio. When we arrived our hotel about an hour later, the game was still on in the "overtime", playing the 13th or 14th inning. For you guys, that don't know the rules about baseball: There are nine innings where each team is once in defense and offense. If the game is tied after the ninth inning, there is an extra inning till one team has scored one run more than the other one after the inning.

Besides the fact that it was cold and we left to early that evening it still was a great night. The atmosphere was great, but nothing compared to German or European soccer games. But it is still an awsome game which I am attracted to. Even though I like the Dodgers much more than the Giants :)

I am a little bit behind your streams due to the fact that I haven't had the time on the weekend, yesterday and today. But I try to catch up to you tonight.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

See some impressions of that night at the comments.

I am not completely sure whether the viewfinder is called an ocular in English. If not, then I use optics for O.

It was not so easy to make this photograph. As always, the idea seems simple, however, the technical realisation turns out to be quite complicated.

I started to shoot through the viewfinder of my Nikon with the camera of my cell phone. That was not a success; both the autofocus and autolighting got very confused.

Then I switched to my old Olympus. Funny how easily you forget where all the buttons are when you haven't used it for more than a year. But in the end I got reasonable results.

The most difficult part was to find a good balance between the luminance in the viewfinder and the luminance of the rest, a difference of at least two stops. In the current picture, the viewfinder image is a little underexposed, whereas the top left and right are clearly overexposed. Of more than twenty shots, this was the best result.
