The blue-gray eye. and the dark chocolate hind wing accented with white splotches are good field marks to help identify this Fritillary species.

Legend says that Atlantis city was built by Poseidon, god of sea when he fell in love with a mortal woman Cleito. He made this city on top of a nearby hill and named it Atlantis. It is believed that he walked through these islands until he reached the biggest of them all- Atlantis and found it to be inhabited by people more beautiful and intelligent than rest of the world. It is here he first saw his future wife and fell in love with her.

Took a tour of the Kenndy Space station yesterday with Mark Lee as our tour Guide. Mark was a Space Shuttle Astronaut that flew on 4 space shuttle missions and participated in space walks. Meeting Mark was awesome and it was a great experience to get to ask someone who is such an expert in an area that I am interested in so many questions. We didn’t get to see much that you don’t normally see on a regular visit to the space station, but we did get to see it with Mark.
Our day ended here with the Space Shuttle Atlantis, I have seen this many times before and I am still impressed with the way that it is presented. If you have the chance I highly recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, comment, fave or invite. I really appreciate them all.
pls wait for the image to load fully when viewing full size. Think enough of fractals for now - giving me headaches and bad for the eyes.
This is the ventral view of the Atlantis Fritillary also posted this evening. The chocolate colour of the disc and marginal wing bands help to identify this species more than an examination of the patterns on the dorsal side.

If Santorini turns out to be the lost Atlantis, then I don't want to hear or know. I prefer to keep the mystery.
The dorsal view. Some of the Fritillaries look alike in the patterns seen on the dorsal side of the wings, and can be difficult to decipher. That is why it can be important to catch the ventral view which is more diagnostic.
I posted the ventral view of this Fritillary as well.

Amsterdam Light Festival - You may identify the image of an international metropolis plagued by floods and other natural disasters from blockbuster films like Deep Impact (1998) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004). With the sinking city, Atlantis, Utskottet demonstrates how this menacing scene can become a frightening reality.
The rise in sea levels and increase in extreme weather conditions around the world are demonstrable consequences of the way we recklessly interact with our planet – if we’re not careful, Amsterdam might one day be underwater. Utskottet drew inspiration from all over the world for the skyscrapers. If you look closely you might recognise some famous buildings like New York’s Empire State Building, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tower in Egypt, the BSA Twin Towers in the Philippines, or, a little closer to home, Amsterdam’s A’dam Tower.
Utskottet chose buildings from different cities to form a global cityscape – after all, the threat of total demise concerns us all. The title of the artwork, Atlantis, refers to the mythical narrative of an island empire that disappeared following a series of natural disasters. First written about by Greek philosopher and writer Plato (427-347 BC), the story details how Atlantis vanished underwater as the result of earthquakes and tidal waves.

Atlantis is off to the South if I having my bearings right. We didn't go there I guess they want to charge you simply to have the privilege of being on their property. I even debated on cutting it out of the image but I feel like it gives a bit of scale to the image.
