My friend Mario and I enjoyed a cigar on a sunny January day in Atlanta.

Standing 19 feet tall and clutching a giant hot dog, this Paul "Bunyon" statue, is one of Route 66’s mythic Muffler Man Statues.

Paul Bunyan is a giant lumberjack in American and Canadian folklore. His exploits revolve around the tall tales of his superhuman labors. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Bunyan)

During the heydays of Rt 66, travellers passed hundreds of signs, murals and other forms of roadside advertising. Among the more famous stood the fiberglass giants created during the 1960s by International Fiberglass of Venice, California.

In 1965 one of these giants was placed in front of a restaurant on Rt 66 in Cicero, Illinois, and the original axe was swapped for a hot dog. After this place closed, thanks to the Illinois Route 66 Association, this giant has been moved in 2003 to Atlanta, as a route 66 icon.

Overnight and this morning nice light flakes have covered everything. Very beautiful. Here is the muscadine vine. Maybe more snow throughout the day today.

My son Eric photographing the 'thing' in the middle of the fountain, just inside the courtyard, after entering the building. And me? Trying out a new WIDE lens.

With the symbol changes starting to creep into use in preparation for the CP takeover, the stack trains seemed to be some of the last ones to swap over. Back in January this was still I-DAAT, flying through the farm fields of northern Louisiana right at track speed of 59 mph.

The sky is photoshopped bled with a different cloud image.

This side of the former Concordia Hall has an alligator mural painted by Belgian artist ROA, whose urban murals usually feature animals local to the region, rendered in black and white.

This building (originally Concordia Hall, built by a Jewish cultural association) is part of a historic district in Atlanta called Hotel Row. It was probably at one time a hotel, but I don't know if the "Star Hotel" sign is an actual sign from the building's earlier days or an artistic flourish. I can't find any reference to a "Star Hotel" at this location.

The lyre above the door on the right was the symbol of the Concordia Association.
