It is all so common around the aquatic wetland of the lake county Preserves to see one of these guys roaming around. This is the painted turtle which is common in lake county, When not sun tanning on land they stay near water where they tend to use that as protection and in these protected wetlands they roam free we helped this little guy out of the entrance. (1/80 f/22)

I liked experimenting with this assignment. It actually took me quite a few tries to get the "y" correct. I thought I did a good job at making my name readable. I thought I could have chosen a spot that was darker so I wouldn't get any reflection from the lights. Oh, and I go by my middle name Troy, so that's why I decided to use that one, plus it's a lot shorter than trying to spell Raymond.

For this photo I manipulated shadows and highlights quite a bit to get a real nice silhouette effect. The image was on it's way before it just needed a tweak to really make it stand out. I also saturated the colors in the sky to make them pop. There was also an airplane I edited out of the background.

Assignment #2 is all about contrast and complementary colors. The point of this painting is to pull the negative space into the painting. I painted the background blue, then just painted on top of it. It was hard making myself leave enough of the blue background showing to make an impact, but I think I succeeded. I really enjoyed painting this one. The repetition was really soothing. I plan to play around with this style a lot more.

This shows the before and after together. I originally took this only to get my settings for the "real" shots I was going to take of my daughter for the "b&w assignment". I would have normally dumped this because he is washed out and his eyes aren't as clear as they need to be. I use Picnik for my pp work. I applied "gritty" then "b&w" (no filters), cropped it and sharpened it.
