So much of Acharacle is unique. The place is full of one-offs. Such as Joanne who owns and runs the Artisan shop, a new art and craft shop featuring locally produced artisan products, gifts and souvenirs. ......and occasionally can be found painting the Acharacle jetty supports too.

She's always at work beavering away with fabrics and textiles making handbags, purses and other crafted articles. Everything is locally produced including the craft beers, and organic single malt whisky. There's always a patient cat or dog keeping her company as the sewing machine whirrs away. This is Highland village life. No heatwave. No drought.

PS Joanna recovered all eight of our dining room chairs in Harris Tweed and they look and feel fantastic

Bonus : Can you spot the dragonfly flying??

If you are planning to visit pandals during end sep/ oct in kolkata any year ! You will be amazed by the creativity and craftsmanship of the local artisans, and you will experience the true spirit of Durga Puja.

Laying the mosaic pavement requires backbreaking labor. It's an arduous job performed in a prostrate position, making this traditional art of calçeteiros both rare and expensive. When wet, the surfaces of "calçadas" tend to be slippery and can contribute to slips and falls. Also, the moisture breaks down the design requiring frequent maintenance. For this reason, today’s government is considering a way of creating a safer pavement for the pedestrian while at the same time maintaining the unique beauty of this art form as an important part of the nation's identity and heritage.

The Ganesha festival is the festival of the Indian God of all that is auspicious - the elephant God, Ganesha. Idols of Ganesha are brought into homes amidst fun, food and festivities and immersed in water 10 days later with a tearful goodbye. 2-3 months before the festival, sculptors and artists start work on making and painting these idols. Their work does not get celebrated as much as it deserves to be. Much of this art is familial and is passed down each generation. Here's an artisan at work in his workshop

Ethnic Nùng An woman spreads bau hat leaves to dry.

Thap village in Cao Bang, Vietnam, remains a center for traditional incense making, with nearly 100 families dedicated to the craft. They use natural ingredients like sawdust, tree bark, and various herbs. A key ingredient is bau hat leaves (Litsea cubeba), which provide a unique citrusy aroma and act as a natural binder. The leaves are dried, ground, and mixed with other ingredients to form a paste, which is then rolled onto bamboo sticks. This time-honored process, passed down through generations, preserves a vital part of local culture and heritage.

I like to bake on weekends. This weekend I decided to make some Gluten Free Artisan Bread in my Emile Henry Bread Pot. I love this pot, unlike most dutch ovens, it's made of ceramic and much lighter.

A Legacy of Pottery Artistry: The art of pottery in Fes dates back to medieval times, with the city's artisans perfecting the craft through generations. Passed down from master to apprentice, the techniques and knowledge have been preserved, allowing the tradition to flourish to this day. Fes pottery is deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, reflecting the influence of Berber, Arab, and Andalusian artistic traditions, bringing the clay to life.

I loved how removed from the world the artists appear to be; their intense focus only on their art.
