ON THE ARNO RIVER... [Pisa]
The river originates on Mount Falterona in the Casentino area of the Apennines, and initially takes a southward curve. The river turns to the west near Arezzo passing through Florence, Empoli and Pisa, flowing into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Marina di Pisa.
Perhaps the most beautiful Italian city, with a wonderful pedestrian historical center, and beautiful reflections on the river Arno!!

The "weirs" were a continuation of the city wall in the bed of the river Arno, with this system the enemy ships could not neither descend nor ascend the river to launch an attack on the city of Florence.
