The Argus C-3 "Brick" rangefinder. This one was made in 1953 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. The 50mm f3.5 Cintar lens is a Cooke triplet lens and takes nice photos. These cameras are easy to repair and rehab, and are quite fun to shoot with.

A typical Argus shot. The contrast is very good, so the first impression is: "Hey, not bad!". Then one might take a closer look at the details and the sharpness, and the second impression is "ouch!"

Very young children undergo a phase where they delight in repeating words of a scatological or otherwise gross or offensive nature that they picked up somewhere. You shouldn't worry too much - it's just a phase and they soon grow out of it.

Much in the same way, architects delight in imposing the ugliness of sheer concrete on buildings that then become eyesores the public has to endure for decades, until it is finally torn down. Probably the root cause is the same that motivates children - the delight in causing annoyance and outrage.

However, unlike children, architects never grow out of it, and more's the pity.

Back in October I loaded a roll of long-expired Kodak Gold 200 in the old-but-not-expired Argus C3 with the 35mm lens and went for a walk through the neighborhood and down to Durand Eastman Park. The colors came out intense, but it was that sort of day.

The Argus C3 was a budget rangefinder camera manufactured by Argus in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA between 1939 and 1966. The camera has sold around 2 million units, making it one of the most popular cameras in history. Because of its shape, size and weight, it is commonly referred to by photographers as “The Brick.” Text excerpt Wikipedia

Letchworth State Park. Walking up the the west-side path from the Lower Falls. The tree said, "Stop here." So I did.

There is a pull-off at the head of the trail along the east rim and down to the Lower Falls footbridge. I followed the trail down to and across the footbridge, up and around the short loop on the west rim, then back down and up the car.
