Built in 1897, the round barn is now a landmark along historic route 66 and featured in many books and documentaries about the historic US highway

Arcadia Marsh... Northwest Michigan was lush this summer, but a number of tree species had been hit with diseases.

A shady grove just off the highway and a few feet from the sandy ocean beach below, Arcadia State Recreation Site is located a mile south of Cannon Beach. Arcadia’s beach stretches for more than a mile between two headlands. Just a short distance to the north is Humbug Point, with Lion Rock just off the point. This is a very nice place to catch the sunset. The parking area sits just above the beach, so I just walked back and forth happily clicking away. It has been so hot in the valley where I live, an overnight trip to the coast, as we call it here in the Pacific Northwest, was a welcome respite.

Norfolk & Western era CPLs stand guard at Arcadia as another day gives way to night.

Behind a pair of NS SD60E's, thee local is slightly overpowered as it makes its way through Arcadia.

A former UP SD90MAC leads NS 16T north past the south end of the siding at Arcadia. The gondolas in the front of the train allow a nice little window to see the CPL bracket mast guarding the siding.

The awesome Arcadia Marsh, with its walkway, was across the street from where we were staying.

A beautiful winter's day spent visiting an area of England that was home to many of my ancestors and is still home to relatives.

Hertfordshire is a county in southern England, its name being derived from 'hart' meaning stag and ford.

This lovely moment in time was captured as I walked between Ley Green and King's Walden.

As one example of the history in this area, Ley Green is listed in the Domesday Book, the area being owned by King William - and is recorded as having a population of 4 households in 1086.

Sailing to Holyhead, Wales from Greenock, Scotland is the Arcadia on the Firth of Clyde at Sunset.

Over the river low lying cloud wreaths the Brisbane skyline, while to the left the Brisbane Festival (5th to 26th of September) village of Arcadia glitters with shimmering whimsy and stunning spectacle.

NS 14Z heads north through Arcadia. As of the time of this photo, signal replacement on the Valley is moving at a rapid pace, and these signals will likely fall by year's end

NS 16T eases it's way through the James River Valley at Arcadia, making a rare late morning run up the valley. I can't stress enough how cool it is to actually be standing at Arcadia in person. Like i said before, what a view!

taken where we live.

I have a habit of changing names when I go through a stage in my SL life but Arcadia always felt like it fit me best. It was a name given to me by someone who touched me deeply in the short time I knew him.

Foxy felt kind of like I had to always be one thing and if I strayed then I was in the dog house as it were.

So forget the old Foxy, that was my slave name.

Glad to be back and kickin' it

One of the classic must do shots in the Shenandoah Valley is Arcadia. The Roanoke District splits a ranch in two at this location, giving a wide open space to photograph the train. The cherry on top here is of course the old N&W CPL style signals that still earn their keep for now. As you can see, shooting at higher elevations this particular morning was a bit dicey, but luckily a patch of sun was following the train as it came into view.

A gray and overcast day at the beach. Was hoping for better light at sunset but didn't happen. I'll try again on another day.

Low tide on the Oregon coast near Cannon Beach. Haystack Rock can be seen in the background.
