Taken in the Dunsmuir area of Mount Shasta. After a 2 mile hike along railroad tracks this area is known as Mossbrae Falls.

I tentatively ID'd this beautiful bird based on a small drawing in National Geographics "Field Guide to the Birds of North America" as a Krider's Red-tailed Hawk but was not confident that I was correct. Thanks, Brennan, for properly identifying it as a pale immature red-tailed hawk. I appreciate the help!

Lavender Cotton blooms taken at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens. This species is Santolina Virens. They are quite small, the one in focus measures about 1.5 cm in diameter.

The knees get a good work out because they are less than a foot above the ground.

Why is nature so beautiful? In small animals we can see so much beauty, many things to appreciate, many things so beautiful that God gave us, then I stop and think, why does man still think about wars, destruction? To put an end to everything that was given to us, it was not sold, but even so, we don't know how to enjoy it, enjoy it, appreciate it. How long will man be this clueless being? Does a being like a butterfly know what we are doing with the world? We need to reflect on what we want for ourselves, but mainly what we will leave for our children and the future of humanity. We are small beings thinking we are giants, how sad. With all this, I'm still going to stay here, standing, looking at this small and beautiful butterfly, who innocently lives in this uncertain world, but I still want to enjoy a lot, all that God has given us. Great week everyone!

Porque a natureza é tão bela? Em pequenos animais conseguimos enxergar tanta beleza, muitas coisas para apreciarmos, muitas coisas tão bonitas que Deus nos deu, aí paro e penso, porque o homem ainda pensa em guerras, destruição? Acabar com tudo isso que nos foi dado, não foi vendido, mas mesmo assim não sabemos aproveitar, curtir, apreciar. Até quando o homem será esse ser tão sem noção? Será que um ser como uma borboleta sabe o que estamos fazendo com o mundo? Precisamos refletir o que queremos para nós, mas principalmente o que deixaremos para nossos filhos e o futuro da humanidade. Somos pequenos seres achando que somos gigantes, que tristeza. Com tudo isso, ainda vou ficar aqui, parado, olhando para essa pequena e linda borboleta, que inocentemente vive neste mundo incerto, mas quero aproveitar bastante ainda, tudo isso que Deus nos deu. Excelente semana a todos!
