This cake was done for a 40th birthday. She sent me descriptions of the apps that she wanted and I created each one individually. The top layer of the cake was yellow and the bottom was red velvet. It was filled with chocolate mousse and the crumb coat was cream cheese frosting.

Heatersare typically mounted along the perimeter of the space when applicable. Door areas are stacked with extra units, or tube heater burner boxes are located by doors to provide extra heat. Care is taken to avoid violating the published clearances to combustibles with doors in the open position and/or lifts (with cars on them) in the up position. Common applications also utilize tubes located between lift rows (center of the building) or along side a wall with the heat shined inward. Outside combustion air is highly recommended. Lastly, do not place any heater inside of a paint booth

About Skill-Pill Mobile Learning

www.skill-pill.com

Skill-Pill Mobile Learning is based in London and has been developing mobile learning applications for corporate clients in the US, UK and mainland Europe.

Skill-Pills are two minute long video clips – mobile learning applications that run on any video-enabled mobile/cellphone, smartphone, Blackberrry, PDA, iPod and if you are lucky to own one yet – the iPhone! Our branded Skill-Pills are designed to reinforce or refresh past learning and training at a point when the user needs it most; typically just before an event that they were trained for. For example, it could be a tough negotiation, a sales meeting or an important presentation.

Skill-Pills provide a quick and compelling reminder of the salient techniques and lessons, for just-in-time learning.

The pill is delivered to your phone via an SMS and acts as a memory prompt. The briefing is succinct and concise. Skill-Pills can be linked to your electronic calendar management system and you can specify when you want one sent to your phone – just before key events in your working week.

My visa application for India turned out to be a right stressful thing - I posted it out, it came back, I ended up going to Birmingham to the visa application centre. It's now (hopefully) waiting for me at my workplace. Can't wait!

Letter of Application and Testimonials for Oliver J. Lodge for the Chair of Experimental Physics at University College, Liverpool, 1881

Lodge was Assistant-Professor of physics at University College, London when he applied for the post at the newly established University College at Liverpool. His letter of application gives details of his academic career and his plans to establish a laboratory at Liverpool, to inspire students with a love of the subject, and to develop a programme of evening classes, mentioning his own experience of studying in the evenings and stating that he ‘should be glad to help young men in like condition’

The application includes testimonials from colleagues at University College, London, and the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and from his friend and mentor, Professor G. F. Fitzgerald.

During his time at Liverpool, Lodge lectured on the ether and discovered the electrostatic condensation of fog. He also carried out experiments on the electromagnetic field, producing electromagnetic waves guided along wires using discharge from a Leyden jar in 1888 during work on lightening conductors.

He returned to experiments with radio waves in the 1890s and, with the help of Alexander Muirhead, gave the first public demonstration of radio telegraphy, using the method of signaling in Morse code via long and short pulses. He demonstrated his radio-wave receiver apparatus at the British Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Liverpool in 1896. Lodge also lectured on X-rays in Liverpool the same year

The fracture surfaces are generally very sharp and angular, indicating fast, brittle fracture with little ductile tearing. Parabolic 'beach marks', can be seen where the fracture has grown at a speed comparable to the speed of sound in the material. This results in periodic, momentary arrests in the crack propagation and periodic ridges in the fracture surface as it advances. These indicate the direction in which the fracture has occurred. Inside the beach marks is a disc-shaped flat region where the initial fracture was progressing significantly faster than the speed of sound. There is also evidence of the fracture surface branching onto different planes as it progresses.

Architects: Claude PARENT, with André BLOC, Hedar GHIA, Mossem FOROUGHI (1966-1968)

Location: Cité internationale Universitaire de Paris, France

This project was initiated by two Iranian architects (Ghia and Foroughi) at the beginning of the 1960s. But their designs and applications for permits were continually refused by the local authorities, who didn't like the initial design (a Bauhaus-style block encrusted with Persian motifs) and also that the building was planned to be taller than the height limit authorized at the time. So the frustrated architects called upon André Bloc, renowned founder of the revue "Architecture d'Aujourd'hui" to help guide them through the French bureaucratic maze. Bloc, in turned, convinced them to recruit Claude Parent to take a fresh look at the design, and he started over with a blank sheet of paper. His project was also refused, initially, by the commission but suddenly all the permits were accorded in record time when it was announced in 1966 that the Shah of Iran would be visiting France on a State Visit and was planning to inaugurate the construction of the building at that time.

The Fondation Avicenne is now managed by the University of Paris system, but it's currently abandoned. The University website says it's undergoing renovations, but I didn't see a lot of construction or restoration activity going on there.
