Being the national bird of Hungary, and capable of flying at speeds approaching 200mph I was delighted when this fabulous looking bird perched briefly to enable a few shots.

I've been on holiday in the East Neuk of Fife & the weather has been stunning. In fact far to bright for photography with the sun shining all day. I've been getting up to try and catch the mist (haar) burning off. But this morning it had all but lifted before 6. However i managed to catch the harbour shrouded in mist earlier in the week & this was probably my favourite of the ones from that morning. Every where we go in Fife just now I'm hearing lots of American voices enjoying the scenery in the scorching weather. I hope they don't think it is always like that here.
Its seems the boats are catching lots of excellent shell fish, langoustines, crab & Lobster. Plus I'm sure the fisher folk are glad of calmer seas to ply their trade on. The boats seem to be going in and out at all times of the day so I know how hard they must work for the money they earn.
Have been enjoying the wonderful seafood that this area has to offer as well as the scenic spots all along this coast.

My trip into London last week included a brief stopover at Tate Britain, more to see what it was like after reopening a few days previous than to see any particular exhibition. As you'd expect it was very quiet and I got some shots of nearly empty museum spaces that in other more normal circumstances would have been unheard of. Here's a shot of the famous circular staircase near the front entrance, photographed many times before by photographers far more gifted than I, but its one of those iconic shots every London photographer has a go at. Seldom have I seen it empty of people so this was a chance not to be missed.

On the road South to a holiday. Hoping for better weather. But rain is good. We need it to fill our rivers with oxygenated water to let the fish thrive & not die. I love the rain... Plus I love moody dark photos & I don't know why....

Woke up to an amazing sunrise this morning in the distance you can spot Tinto Hill known locally as the "hill of fire". #appicoftheweek

The Northumberland coast is now well known for its colourful and patterned rock strata resulting in some wonderful small scene images. This is one section that appealed with its layered effect and colouration - the grains of golden sand contrasting the bluish rocks.
Love a day outside like this when you really feel you are getting away from it all. Glengavel might be close to home but I'm often transported to some remote Loch in the Highlands when I'm here. There is a lovely wee beach at this end of the Loch & I've often enjoyed my lunch catching a few rays. All is great as long as there is a breeze or the humble scottish midgie might chase you away.

I just love this beach in Lanzarote. It's a Mecca for surfers & a dramatic sight at dawn & dusk. I did use a mist filter which I think does give it a strange feel & love the red towel.
A bit of friendly Saturday morning banter in the angling club boat shed. The eternal debate about what are the best fishing flies. Of course the answer is to be out on the water casting your line as you would have more success than drinking coffee in the shed :-D
The same morning as my previous post which turned out to be quite productive for me - unusually - normally if I get one photo from an outing then I'm happy but several showed themselves to be decent from this morning (by my standards obviously!). This, when the grey blanket that had descended for several minutes was being burned off by the sun.
Whilst sitting in a small hide on the edge of a reed bed in Spain this beautiful eagle made a brief visit at just after 9am. Too much lens (500mm) gave me head shots only and I honestly did not think it would return. Two hours later it came back, and after feeding jumped up on this platform directly in front of me - even 135mm was only just enough to get her in the frame. She then jumped onto the roof of the hide before flying away, a truly memorable experience.
This bird was tagged in the nest, at a location in France back in 2019 as part of an ongoing reintroduction project.The researchers have no other recorded sightings of the bird other than every autumn / winter in this area of Spain. They also believe that she will eventually breed somewhere in Spain and will not return to France.

Another view of the derelict cottage by Oaking Clough reservoir on the Hallam Moors. Probably built by Sheffield Water Works, (there's a small stone with the letters SWW engraved in it nearby) and shared by water board workers and grouse shooters.
