Pata-de-vaca ( Cow paw/ Bauhinia forficata) is a tree of the Atlantic Forest and other biomes, to be found in the territory of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia.
It is an ornamental tree, appreciated in urban areas for its beautiful and large flowers.
It is traditionally used as a medicine and has been the subject of diabetes control studies. Scientific studies have proven the plant is able to reduce hyperglycemia by having insulin-like action. In addition, studies prove an important antioxidant potential of plant extracts in vitro.
The species is a pioneer and important in the regeneration of degraded forests.
Due to the morphology of its leaves, similar to the shape of bovine paws, Bauhinia fortificata is commonly called cow paw, among other similar names.

Macro Monday’s theme – Fill-the-Frame with Food.
Going out fruit picking over the weekend and eating quite a lot as I was going along thought it the perfect subject for a Macro Monday’s project, This is a macro of a range of fruits known for their antioxidant properties.
This is a macro of what was left.

Rapeseed Oil
If you want a light alternative to other cooking oils, rapeseed is a great choice and has experienced a surge in popularity since around 2008. It's produced from the bright yellow rape plant that grows freely in the UK in large fields. Best cold -pressed, the oil can then used drizzled as salad dressing, or heated to fry or bake. It's low in saturated fat, so has been hailed for its health benefits and also has other nutritional bonuses - it contains omegas 3, 6 and 9, which reduce cholesterol and help to maintain healthy joint, brain and heart functions. As it is high in mono-unsaturated fats, it is one of the only unblended oils that can be heated to a high frying temperature and not spoil its antioxidants, character, colour or flavour. Homegrown rapeseed oil has been heralded the 'British olive oil' but its flavour is more earthy and nutty than fruity.

The fresh, recently opened leaves of a Ginko tree on my client's property, which I park beside.
I love spring! New life and growth, the warmer weather, seeing the sun again and the influx and activity of bird life...
Seeing the tiny, new Ginko leaves are no exception. I have often noted how beautiful the leaf structure is, and with the lighter shade of spring green, this year I finally attempted to capture it in a captivating way!
I recently found out that the Ginko leaf is also medicinal. Ginkgo biloba is rich in antioxidants, can reduce inflammation, benefit heart health, brain function, and eye health, etc..
I continue to be juggling more in life than I ideal, and find it hard to find time for one of my favourite past-times: enjoying your shots on Flickr!! I am hoping the load will feel lighter when I finish homeschooling in a week or so.
Happy belated Mother's Day and Father's Day!!

If there's one plant that, despite its fame, is still underestimated, it's today's hidden beauty. The flower is a marvel and a feast for the eyes at every stage of its development. There are also a few impressive details.
The plant has been used as a vegetable or medicinal plant for over 5,000 years. The ancient Egyptians even offered them to the gods as an offering.
It was the medicinal plant of the year 2015. It lowers blood pressure and blood sugar levels and helps with colds, coughs and insect bites.
And last but not least (hence the name of the picture) it is incredibly rich in vitamins (from A to E everything is included) and antioxidants.
In addition, it gives every dish that certain touch because it acts as a natural flavor enhancer (bye bye glutamate).
I am pleased to be able to present them here today. Ladies and gentlemen: the onion.

The blue color of the blue-footed booby's webbed feet comes from carotenoid pigments obtained from its diet of fresh fish. Carotenoids act as antioxidants and stimulants for the blue-footed booby's immune function, suggesting that carotenoid-pigmentation is an indicator of an individual's immunological state. Blue feet also indicate the current health condition of a booby. Boobies that were experimentally food-deprived for forty-eight hours experienced a decrease in foot brightness due to a reduction in the amount of lipids and lipoproteins that are used to absorb and transport carotenoids. Thus, the feet are rapid and honest indicators of a booby's current level of nourishment.
As blue feet are signals that reliably indicate the immunological and health condition of a booby, coloration is favored through sexual selection.

The hibiscus flower is traditionally worn by Tahitian and Hawaiian girls. If the flower is worn behind the left ear, the woman is married or in a relationship. If the flower is worn on the right, she is single or openly available for a relationship. The hibiscus is Hawaii's state flower.
Hibiscus is full of vitamins and minerals that help strengthen the immune system. With large levels of vitamin C, hibiscus tea is a great way to prevent colds and flu in the cold winter months. Hibiscus is also full of antioxidants that help boost overall health.

I've seen many children, and also adults don't like to eat bread crust.
"The study, which was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, suggests that bread crust collects eight times more of a unique, cancer-fighting antioxidant than the crumb (the soft, pale center) of the bread does".[ Not interested too much about research 😊 ] undergroundhealthreporter.com/fact-or-myth-does-bread-cru...

For the Macro Monday challenge "Tea" (June 27th 2022)
I admit it - I am a tea drinker! The world seems to have gone coffee mad, but I still prefer tea. Black tea, chai and most recently Japanese green tea. I'd heard so much about the health benefits of green tea - but I found it bitter and unappealing. Then I discovered that the Japanese have an amazing array of green teas, and I found some that I really liked! This one (that I can source in the UK) is called "Genmaicha Iri Matcha" described as an "award-winning Japanese green tea that combines comforting toasted rice with premium sencha and antioxidant-rich matcha in one wholesome brew". OK I do add a little honey to it - but I am a westerner and I do have a sweet tooth! 😊
There's size guide shot of the decorative spoon I used in the fist comment field.

Kiwifruit is a rich source of vitamin C, 1.5 times the DRI scale in the US. Its potassium content by weight is slightly less than that of a banana. It also contains vitamins A and E. The skin is a good source of flavonoid antioxidants. The kiwifruit seed oil contains on average 62% alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. Usually a medium size kiwifruit contains about 46 kilocalories, 0.3 g fats, 1 g proteins, 11 g carbohydrates, 75 mg vitamins and 2.6 g dietary fiber.

The red jamb tree/ Jambeiro (Syzygium malaccense) is a species of the Myrtaceae family, a family that stands out for having a large number of species that produce fruits of economic value.
It originates from Asia and easily adapts to the subtropical climate. After being introduced in Brazil, the species gained space, mainly in the Northeast and North of the country.
The Red jamb is a tree that can reach about 15 meters in height. It has a straight trunk and large, simple, dark green leaves that reach a maximum length of 30 cm. Jambeiro flowers stand out for having numerous purple-red stamens, which form a kind of pompom. Flowering occurs from April to June.
Each jamb tree is capable of producing more than 1000 fruits, which results in about 85 kilos of jambo per tree. The fruit has white flesh, a thin, dark red skin and a shape that varies from slightly elliptical to oval, measuring about seven centimeters in length and smelling like roses.
Often consumed in natura, but it is also used in the production of jellies, jams, sweets, liqueurs and brandy.
The red jamb is also used as a natural antioxidant in various industrial segments and in the production of dyes, but can also be used as a flavoring agent in beverages and foods, due to its aromatic properties. In Puerto Rico, red jambo is used in the production of wine.
Like a wide variety of fruits, red jambo is also rich in vitamins, mineral salts and fiber.
`* This tree provides a intense shadow because of the big and dark green leaves, which makes difficult to photograph the flowers growing directly in the branches.
The wind helped me sometimes allowing the sunshine to reach some groups of flowers. ;)

Le Lotus sacré.
Utilisations
Ornementale.
Uses
Ornamental.
Food: All parts of the plant are edible. The petals are eaten as cooked garnish or in herbal tea (like the stamens and leaves); the stalks are used in soups, salads, and stir-fries; the rhizomes are used in soups, stir-fries, and starch; the seeds are eaten raw, roasted, or ground into a paste for baking.
Medicinal: The rhizome is rich in trace elements, B vitamins, and fiber and has antidiabetic and weight-loss properties; the seeds are antioxidants (traditional Chinese medicine).
Miscellaneous: The leaf is used as a plate, the fruits are used in dried bouquets, and the whole plant is used in cosmetics. Notes
The Lotus is very present in Asian cultures (art, architecture, poetry) where it is emblematic of Buddhism (lightness and purity of the rising flower, notably the Buddha) and Hinduism (attributes of deities, such as Vishnu, symbol of the blossoming of the soul). The seed has a very long lifespan; seeds as old as 1,300 years have been known to germinate.
Un grand merci pour vos favoris, commentaires et encouragements toujours très appréciés.
Many thanks for your much appreciated favorites and comments.

Raspberries, not only are they delicious but they rank near the top of all fruits for antioxidant strength!
Raspberry derives its name from raspise, "a sweet rose-colored wine" (mid-15th century), from the Anglo-Latin vinum raspeys, or from raspoie, meaning "thicket", of Germanic origin.
The name may have been influenced by its appearance as having a rough surface related to Old English rasp or "rough berry".

Some studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, to prevent an interaction, it should not be taken in combination with blood pressure medications.
Animal studies have found that hibiscus extract has antioxidant properties. Additional studies are needed to determine how this may translate to humans.
Some studies have shown that hibiscus tea may reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in those with diabetes and metabolic syndrome. However, other studies have produced conflicting results. More research is needed in the general population
Capers, often used as a seasoning, and the fruit (caper berries), are both usually consumed pickled. Other parts of Capparis plants are used in the manufacture of medicines and cosmetics.
It is present in almost all the circum-Mediterranean countries, and is included in the flora of most of them, but whether it is indigenous to this region is uncertain.
The buds, when ready to pick, are a dark olive green.
Being flower buds, capers are, in fact, very low in calories; provide just 23 calories per 100 g. Nonetheless, this spice contains many phytonutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins essential for optimum health.
Have a Healthy MacroMonday!!
